From his Instagram it sounds like he was in the same crash as Caleb Ewan.
EDIT: too slow

Valls broke his collarbone.

Question from someone who rarely follows pro cycling apart from TDF, what’s the assumed thinking behind this years route choice which seems to be very hilly?
Allaphillipe stage wins? If Pinot is the French fav does this suit him? Or is it just designed to be exciting? -

That list of crashes.... it’s nowhere near complete either.

Is that rumour about a vehicle blowing soap bubbles everywhere as part of the caravan true?
Actual LOL if so. -
• #132
Little happy bubbles, filled with little happy viruses, floating in the sky

It hasn't rained in Nice for two months and the roads always get really slippery when it rains after a sustained dry spell, so even if the rumoured vehicle was blowing soap bubbles, the roads would still have been treacherous.

The last 2-3km of La Course was awesome.

I’ve done the descent from Levens down to Nice in the rain myself - Those roads sure do get crazy slippery.
It was just the comment in that’s article about the bubble car really made me chuckle.... it sounds like a very ASO oversight! -

Helpful roundup of the casualties.
Why have there been so many crashes since the season restarted?

Gilbert also out of the race.

People are super excited to be racing, 5 months off large group races.
I don’t think riders train on wet descents at race pace.
Group riding senses are dulled.
Unexpected road conditions compared to previous experience. If it is a wet Roubaix, can you imagine how many crashes there will be...

What’s with cycling news’ really bad English on the gallery captions? Is it translated from a different language (I assumed it was a uk or us website) or do they just not edit?
May now be derided for using Cyclingnews -

Update on Rafa Valls, he broke his femur, not his collarbone. That's a big difference, I wish him a speedy recovery.
More bad news for Lotto-Soudal, Gilbert won't start this morning due to a broken knee cap.

Wout Poels broke a rib and has “lung problems” but is starting

Aussie tv talking up Richie's chances for the overall here. Pointing to his performance at TdU. No shame here.

Dropped him from my team so expect a win today

Where is wout now?

I mught have missed it, but did they show who or what caused the pinot crash at 2.9k and whether the trek(?) Rider on the floor was ok?

What the hell is that Isodore add about on eurosport?

Quite happy the (Orica) Michelton-Scott back stage pass is back. I've found it a good way to keep an eye on things without the time/dedication to watch the race. In it for the bantz.

'Rafael Valls and John Degenkolb will not start stage 2. Degenkolb crashed and then missed the time cut.'
