  • Other than looking a bit odd, is there any issue having a saddle at the extreme of its marked 'stop' zone on the rails? As in will it tilt back a bit more over the seat post with the weight of a human acting essentially as a lever?

  • What year are these Aksiums, one of the rear left spokes have broken and my mate hasn't got a spare.

  • Should be a printed reference near the valve hole that a Mavic stockist can decipher.

  • Probs a code on it you can stick in the mavic website.

  • You could use the Thomson seat post bolts. They are sold as spares.
Only problem is that the OD of the barrel (Thomson) is ever so slightly larger than the BBB one.
You could take some sandpaper wrapped around a drill bit or something to make the hole inside the clamp where the barrel nut sits a tiny bit larger.
Thomson bolt kits are available in Titanium as well, have a look on eBay.

  • Is there a camping equipment thread?
Don't want to pile into bikepacking, after a place to find out "what kettle should I get?" Etc

  • I think you just pm @platypus

  • Ah. Like arrowspok and chroming?

  • Just be sure to suffix any question with "I had a look at decathlon but they didn't have what I was looking for"

  • Thanks for this possible solution.
Is this what you have done yourself?
Doesn't @gbj_tester frown on Titanium bolts?

  • I need to pick up some floorboards and other misc timber from the yard a couple of KMs down the road.

Is there any reason to get ratchet straps over cam buckle tie downs for the roofrack? I've always used rope in the past but that's been misplaced and figured some sort of webbing option would be less hassle...

  • Ratchet straps are a damned sight more secure, the blue webbing ones from Screwfix are cheap and more than adequate for what you need.

  • Personally I'd go for ratchet straps, having had problems with cam buckles slipping when fastening motorbikes to a trailer. I've also used ratchet straps for other things, such as a web clamp when repairing furniture.
Having said that, a ratchet system can cause damage if you over tighten it - I was surprised how easy it was to bend the boot floor of a Terrano...

  • Thanks @ColinTheBald @MrE - ratchets it is!

  • I need a power supply for one a NetGear GS110TP ProSafe Switch. The switch says 48v 1.25A

Surprised by the size and cost of them like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/KFD-injector-GS116Ev2-Ethernet-SoundPoint/dp/B07QQB9XW3/

is this just what it is, or is there a cheaper smaller option with a wall brick?

  • I am half way trough fitting a new 1/8 chain, but it doesn't have the usual quick link. Instead there is a weird two part rivet in the package that I haven't seen before.

    How does this work?
Which tool do I use to get it in there?

  • Looks like you screw on the penis looking bit, use that as a guide and use a chain tool to join the chain, unscrew the penis guide. Then remove the chain and replace with one that isn't a halflink chain, but keep the halflink one in case you need an occasional halflink.

  • Like that, but with a reusable penis guide, rather than snapping it off.

  • is there a cheaper smaller option with a wall brick?

48V POE-injection wall bricks seem to be 0.5A and only half the price anyway.

I foolishly assumed that if you were even bothering to ask then the thing was £100+, not £20 🙂

You're going to struggle to get a 60W PSU into a smaller package because physics - do the maths on PSU efficiency and heat rejection and you'd see that a much smaller box would be too hot to touch.

  • That’s 60W which is in medium-sized laptop territory, and that’s about the least I’d pay for a PSU of that power level and expect it to work and not kill anyone.

It’s probably because it’s a PoE injector so it needs enough juice to power other devices on the network.

  • Cool.

    That all answers my question(s).

  • Thanks all.
Proprietary chain splitters can get fucked.
Oh well, the old fashioned method still works. Just more faff.

  • I’ve just bought a Shimano WH RS500 wheel.......but forget rim tape.
Do I actually need it the inside of the r a s smooth with no nipples exposed?
