  • Amazing, that sort of thing seems to be oddly common with early MX-5s, likely due to them being rendered useless due to rust issues.

  • That's brilliant.

Although given all the effort they should have removed the exhaust from the trailer.

  • Also finance companies can be very binary / "computer says no".

#CSB - the company my mum worked for paid their company cars from a separate non-trading investment company. For one of the cars they were going to get an Alfa Giulietta. They went round and round in circles with Alfa finance over the question of what the trade was and how a non-trading company could pay the lease. In the end they bailed for fear of the finance co's ineptitude effecting the companies credit rating.

  • In the cubby under the drivers left side arm rest there's a false floor. My kid picked up a shell casing and managed to lose it under there. I can't see it or reach it. But I can see a couple of high tension steel cables in there which I assume are handbrake related. Am I going to crash in a fiery death because some fucking squaddies can't pick up after themselves? (and because I have an inquisitive 3yo)

  • I swapped my old sensible car for this a few weeks ago (when it was sunny, natch):

So far 0 regrets, best impulse purchase ever. Always wanted one, and nice to have a car I actually enjoy again rather than driving being my least favourite chore.

  • Why don't you ask on Mumsnet? :)

  • No pop up lights means that you don't have the pop up light coolness.

With the small number of sad people that loved pop up lights.

  • His IP was banned as he used the word cunt.

  • I like pop up lights as well... but the mk2.5 had the specs I wanted (and ones in decent condition seem to be cheaper/easier to come by)

  • Yeah, finding a decent MK1 is really difficult. Ended up with two cheapies (imports and paid scrap value) both inner and outer cills had patches on patches and both failed MOT on rot. In short, and not sure the cars were straight after having the the inner, outer and middle cills replaced, £70 a side. Braced the shell properly too. Drilling the spot welds was a real pain. Then the cars had a cheap blow over. I stripped and masked the cars. Then reassembled once painted.

Made a bit of money profit, but think I paid myself pennies per hour.

EDIT: The Latest MX5 is so good it is rebodied as a fiat 124!

  • They Killed an A2...the bastard.

  • A long drawn out death. There is one being turned in to a pick up.

  • More than one I have seen on the internet.

  • You go to a car show and these things where one car is grimly tugging along half a dead relative are guaranteed to turn up. Our camper van friends are into this. They tend to state 'my whole life revolves around my car and attending car shows'.

  • I think I might get a Caravelle and then take the rear seats out, looks to be a somewhat more car like version of a Transporter, and has car speed limits. Any reason why this is a terrible idea?

  • None. They’re nice.

Or even better, get a multivan. Better comfort + you can convert the rear seats to a bed.

  • The bikes need to go in the back.

Eurotunnel - with a flexiplus ticket can I rock up a day early?

  • Looks like no, but I can get a full refund and book a standard ticket for the day earlier.

  • Peugeot 205
    Renault 5

Either of these would get my vote.

  • When have you ever seen one without dents.

I was up in Edinburgh and Harrogate recently and saw loads in shiny, undented condition.

Saw a few with personalised reg's too, lol.

They are a very middle class car.

  • Grey pound is powerful.

  • How many bikes and people do you need to transport?

  • 1-4, on both counts.

  • My mum sold her Honda Jazz because she found it too boring. My 70 year old mum.
