Nuvinci hubs. Not that I've had an issue with them bar having to change cables (slightly tedious job).
But others have. -

I'm about to test ride a mini mountain as it goes, the box is quite small but still has 2 belts! I guess they only accommodate children up to a smaller size than the full mountain.

Omnium prototype on their insta looks cool
those tubes just go wherever the fuck they want

Yeah, we ended up getting (not arrived yet) the City Mountain because the box on the Mini just wasn’t big enough for kids + day worth of stuff. It’s probably fine for a school run or whatever, but we bought a cargo bike to give us more range around town at the weekend.

i don't really know much about frame geometry/angles and such, but is there a compelling reason why this bike comes with a very short stem? if i replaced it with something like 80mm, would is severely affect handling? could it be to stop you clonking your kids on the heaD?
i like the 'tech documentation' for the workcycles kr8.
Why are the brake levers pointed so far downward?
That’s so that they don’t smack your kids in the head when you turn. Please leave them that way if you carry kids on the bench. You can also adjust them horizontally if that works better for you.I find it difficult to ride without hands on the Kr8/Cargobike. How can I do this?
You can’t. -

Jon, thanks for the tip.. just programmed the controller.
Feels like a different bike! Feels much similar to riding a normal bike.

any pro tips? I have got a USB cable now will be doing it over the weekend. My only issue atm is the power isnt cutting off as quickly as I'd like it to after I stop pedalling. Since its only 350w I'd like to derestrict if I can as well.
-
• #5159
If you're happy with the stock settings (other than the delay) you can load them up into the software then adjust "Stop Decay" to 0, and it should cut out immediately.
By derestrict, you mean lift the speed limit? On mine I can do that in the settings on the head unit, but if you can't do that you're looking for the "Speed Limited" field in the software.

I have a 100mm stem on mine which is basically the same setup. Riding position is almost identical to my road bike with regards to drop and reach. Key issue is it does move the bars forwards which means they can encroach on your cargo space / kid's head / legs (if you have a rear facing seat on the front) etc etc.
In terms of handling, the stem doesn't play the same role on a long john as it does when it's directly
operatingabove the front wheel on a normal bike. It's difficult to explain, but if you take your hand off normal handlebars to signal, you keep leaning forwards on the bars with the other hand and the bike pushes back through the bars and continues on its path in a straight line. On a long john style, you kind of have to sit up a bit and slightly pull back rather than push, because it tries to pull out of your hand. It's because it has a very shallow head tube angle and your weight is in a different place on the bike. I haven't tried a short stem, but I'd wager it's actually easier to ride with a shorter one. -

if i replaced it with something like 80mm
Don't. Think of the chuckability.

• #5163
I'll build it up as intended for now. Thanks for the insights

kid is slowly creeping up to being able to sit without a car seat, with bullitt is my only option the official seat? Not going to have a 2nd child.

Slightly OT but have been requested some recommendations for gasp e-bikes for some older family members. Seeing as there has been a lot of chat about motors, batteries etc in here I thought the hive mind might be more informed than I. Top end kit not required but something fairly decent with a good warranty. All suggestions appreciated!

The Islabikes e-bike offering looks pretty good. I think that's what I'd be recommending as a sensible bike without spending Riese and Muller money.
-
• #5167
Cheers Jon, forgot about Islabikes. Not sure whether they'd take offence at being called baby boomers or not, seeing as they're around the 60 mark. I'll table the suggestion!

Depending on the country the postwar (II) baby boom usually includes those born as late as 1965.

I'm looking at 2o inches tyres for the front of my Omnium. The Schwalbe Big Apple is on the shortlist but it's only rated to 85kg, which is enough for everyday riding but obviously not enough for a load. Anyone's got any experience they'd like to share?
-
• #5170
Think the rating of 85kg is per tyre, so should be fine on the front of the omnium.
Also they come as stock on the Urban Arrow bikes which are rated to carry more than an omnium.

• #5171
Thanks, we'll be fine then. I'm hoping for a less bumpy ride now I'm carrying Jr.

looking at the new reise and muller packster 70
are these upgrades worth the £460 odd they're asking for?

Carted a turntable home successfully today thanks to @Phil221985 Swains Lane totally broke me tho and had to push.
Got overtaken by a Tern GSD fully loaded and caught up to have a chat, asked me if mine was electric and I told her no, 'well done!' she replied. If only she knew the truth.
Need more bungees and that chain guard can feck right off.

Wouldn't say so.
If you're living somewhere hilly or regularly carting around heavy stuff you might find yourself wanting bigger brakes, but you could upgrade to Shimano 4-pot brakes for less than £200 with rotors, easy.
No idea on the lights, and it looks like the seatpost upgrade is for suspension, which really isn't necessary.

Babboe City Mountain? I’ve not ridden the others but the Yamaha motor makes short work of even steep hills.
