  • What are people's experiences with waterproof jackets

I just need something lightweight & packable that I can take out when / if (but most likely when, given the current weather) the weather turns, although I not planning to be anywhere particularly remote (maybe 10 minutes from a village at any point).

They all seem to be insanely expensive though - Even more so, considering how infrequently I expect to be wearing one.

Currently my top choice is the Salomon Bonatti Race Jacket - £80, 160g, 10k/10k

To be honest, it's my only choice, unless I can find something cheaper & as good.

  • If you’re in hills or mountains or out for hours upon hours then a quality waterproof is sensible (more so if you have to stop or slow down)

For urban / park stuff for up to a couple of hours then I just use a cheap decathlon gilet if it’s raining - the wind proof one that breaths rather than the actual waterproof. It’s enough to act as a layer even when it soaks through.
