  • Hi all. Noob runner with a not-really-running noob question. When out cycling, I do the Right Thing and respectfully/cheerfully/sullenly wave at other cyclists. Does one wave at other runners? If so, what is it just the standard acknowledgment nod sort of deal? If not, why not?

  • Pre-covid it was high 5's if they were oncoming,

Now I cross roads / rivers / mountains to avoid oncoming runners.

  • No waving in London. No smiling in London. Death stares, grumpy Gurnard and suffer eyes only.

Out of London- hellos are de rigueur.

  • On the riverside running track - nah. Maybe a friendly nod if I feel inspired. If I know them then I'll bellow JIAYOUUUUUUUUU at them and maybe some abuse.
On the streets near mine, I don't see that many runners so I get overexcited and smile (probably more like a grimace) and pretend to myself that we're going to be BFFs for life... and they blank me.

  • Have found cyclists nod/wave more than runners in general. Never had a high 5 offered up, other than sometimes kids at races which is supercool of course.
