Just install the nextdns app on windows. You don't have to worry about browser settings.
-
• #678
Just don't add a Smart TV device to the mix... those fuckers really query heavily.

We tend to use about 330k per month on average. Happy to pay the £2 per month for that. Not seeing ads and not being tracked (some methods anyway) is nice.
A lot of our queries come from Jana's company remote working software, without those we would be comfortably in the free band even after Hue and Samsung TV antics.

I thought you were running a Jamie Oliver style campaign against them?
@Stonehedge yeah... I feel a bit silly now as it was just one video popup on rennlist.com that made me assume it wasn't working.
Thanks for reminding me about it!

That's what i've just tried to do (admittedly only on a trial account) but it's doing jack shit. Interface is saying I'm not connected to the DNS and ads are freeflowing.
I'll have a proper look later...

You can adjust the blocking lists to block more or less stuff.
I have my router set to block relatively few things so it doesn't break too much stuff but my phone has a much stricter blocklist.
-
• #683
They query even more when you start blocking them.
Aaaargh! Can't dial home! MUST DIAL HOME MORE!
-
• #684
Are you using a VPN on the device? That will bypass it.
I think mine did randomly stop at some point so I ran the script again.

Has anyone worked out how to unblock 4OD?
So far I've added the following to my Allowlist:
*.reports.crashlytics.com
*.cdn.optimizely.com
*.ssl.google-analytics.com
*.ll.dash01.stream.c4assets.com
*.2a7e9.v.fwmrm.net
*.c4.eme.lp.aws.redbeemedia.com
*.channel4.com.ssl.sc.omtrdc.net
*.channel4.sc.omtrdc.net
*.4id.channel4.com
*.webstats.channel4.com
*.ais.channel4.com
All to no avail.
At this point I'm thinking it's easier to turn off the private DNS setting on my phone if I want to cast 4OD. But thought I'd ask in case anyone knew the magic combo.

Right, I have a really weird one. Well it's weird to me.
Have been having problems with our internet with SSE cutting out regularly, usually just turning wifi on and off on or MBPs sorts it, but now with working from home and interrupting meetings etc it's a big issue. It's a 3 bed maisonette so nothing is far from the router.Provider has acknowledged excessive interruptions of the internet connection getting to our router. Had an engineer out who fixed a small thing but said it wouldn't explain dropouts, so they sent us a new Technicolor DWA0120 router. It's still happening although in the last call I had, SSE said the connection has been solid.
I just tried to use Wi-fi Sweetspots app to see if there were better places to put the router and it appears to actually cause the wifi to cut out. I press start and it gives readings, but then drops to 0Mbps and the chrome connection monitor I have pings to show no internet connection. This happens over and over but stops when I stop the app.
What the hell is going on?

The best thing to do is look at the logs and see what is being blocked when it doesn't work.
There seems to be quite a few random ones cropping up.
-
• #689
Have you tried using it with a wired connection to the router. Ruling out the whole connection dropping out is always the best place to start.
-
• #690
Just did that. With my MBP plugged in, the ios app is still showing regular drops, but the cabled signal is fine. I have a QNAP NAS about 1m away from the router but that's all the electrical things near it.

Android phone 4OD app and W10 PC using chrome browser.
look at the logs
That's how I came up with that list. Still won't work. A google showed someone with the same issue, but unresolved.

I did.
And my Smart TV isn't wired up, it's the Nvidia Shield and Netflix app that is chatty, that and the Netflix app on my mobile.
I'm doing around 1.2M DNS queries per month... also very happy with the setup.

To be honest, I'd personally give up on their router and buy something else to do the Wifi. A unifi AP or the Deco things on the previous page or something.
Wifi on shitty ISP supplied routers tends to be a bit crap and I decided that just buying something was better than wasting hours trying to fix it.

Well that wasn't too hard.
The hardest bit was trying to find something online to confirm that the purple light on my Hub 3 meant it was in modem mode.
Placement of the Deco 4 probably isn't great. #1 is in a corner next to a lamp and the light switch. #2 is in the opposite corner of the adjoining room with a chimney stack in between.
Even so my laptop next to #2 is showing:
108.1 Mbps download
9.07 Mbps uploadThe range hasn't extended further down the garden, but it's better around the edge of the house.
The two big tests will be my OH's video conferencing and no random glitches.
If all stays well I'm tempted to wrap #1 in vinyl to match the wall.

I haven't turned WiFi of on my phone or had to tether my laptop to it since I made the switch. The app even alerts me when something new connects to the network. I can then rename and allocate to a user on the fly. Not sure ms_com is aware of this feature, and if not careful will find herself on the low priority list.

Ha!
My MIL is awful for going on her phone when she comes over. Tempted to limit her. Depending how well it works it's potentially an excellent feature for us right now as it means our laptops can be prioritized so we can use Youtube on the TV to distract Mini-H if the other is on a video call. Until now I try and get them outside or upstairs for fear of it impacting my OH's calls. They're getting so fucking physically strong so combined with full NO-mode moving them outdoors can be a nightmare.
The only thing I've been struggling with this morning is getting my Google devices working properly (CCA x 2 and a Hub Mini).
Was also wondering about seeing if I can connect up my old TP Link tl-wa860re range extender, to try and push the signal out towards the garden.

Let me know how you get on, I have one of those in a drawer. Would be handy if I didn't need the additional Deco(s).

Will do. Probably won't be until Friday.
Quick search online doesn't show up anything clear or definitive.
Also thanks again for putting me onto that Argos link. It has saved me so much research, procrastination and spousal negotiation.

You're welcome.
Didn't get anything positive from a google myself. Some things about using it to extend the wifi from one of the decos, but not being part of the mesh. Might be ok, but it was a nightmare trying to extend the Virgin network. The virgin one dropped so often that anything connected to the extender got confused as it still thought it was hooked into the regular SSID.
Wow. And here I thought 300,000 DNS queries a month would be ample.
