Thanks for sharing, such a sweet setup. Looking forward to getting a massive disc on the front of ours too. Was it all fairly straight forward?
Is that a Thorn rear rack? Looks a lot less "agricultural" than what came on ours.

One of these tyres is tubeless, the other, I set up tubed and when I went to convert it, it was too baggy to seat!
Rear rack is from Thorn, annoyingly the struts that mount it onto the cantilever bosses (which is neat) are slightly too long, meaning it's not perfectly horizontal.
I must say the wide bars make controlling the laden bike on gravel trails and easy single track so much easier!

easy single stack
Yeah, the tail can be a bit loose when you ride a tandem solo.

Here's our Mercian on tour the other day, didn't take a picture of the whole train. (According to whim, mademoiselle and the carradice swap places in the trailer, which also carries the rest of the luggage and is pulled by, whisper it, our e-bike, I'm sure I could pull it but the hitch conflicts with the lever arm of the drum brake...)
@crossedthread what sort of drivetrain parts are you looking for? Most of what came on the Mercian could be available, it's a single-sided Stronglight crankset with a pretty big and pretty small ring. I guess it was original on my bike, which has some pretty antiquated features, but is still nowhere near as old as yours.

Nice! I haven’t got the faintest idea of what I need ha ha!
There’s a SA three spd (I think) hub on the back wheel, so I guess I should run a single chain ring. Have to start somewhere, what parts have you got? -

Looks excellent, my dad ofter tows a double "Weehoo" kiddy trailer on his ebike. Straight up and over anything in his path! Kids love it :)

Oh my gawd that’s AWFUL, so sorry. Hope that you have reported this, I believe it’s a criminal matter potentially (I may have misunderstood this, #notalawyer). Were either of you hospitalised with injuries? If not, you should get them checked out. God I’m so angry that this has happened. Hope you can recover your infectious love of cyclig together soon.
Yes, I love my other Dave Yates bikes, they both ride beautifully despite the plonker riding them.

And please tell me you have their insurance details to claim for injuries and repairing that lovely tandem...

Yeah, I have got their insurance details and we are using CTC lawyers to claim for injuries etc. Spend the evening in A&E and we both need physio. She sprained her shoulder and My left knee is weak. Bit of a pain to be without a tandem.

It's not criminal, but attribution of fault is clear-cut in these cases. Sorry to hear that, bjf. Hope it doesn't put you off riding together.

Morning All,
I've rescued an 80's Dave Moulton tandem but have realized my restoration skills aren't up to it - are there any bike shops that people know who can give it a good service as the ones around Mid Sussex won't touch them with a barge pole 🤪

Ouch! Glad you have not got longe lasting injuries, that sucks.
S+S raven twin? (Thorn)? -

Does anyone want the 1970’s MCL Micro Tandem? It’s been sat for a year in my ex’s bedroom near Woolwich.
Frame is solid but paint is chipped in places. Stickers were removed but some look like they were painted over. All mechanicals were fine when I last saw it. 3 speed sturmey, would benefit from a new shifter lever for convenience, but it shifted fine if I remember. Is set up with an extra long front seat-post because I’m not short, modern bars and stems, but I have the original bars in Swindon somewhere I can post out for cost to the buyer.
Recommend for two youths or two less tall lightweight people. 16” wheels. Rim brakes. Cotter pin cranks, etc.
I wanted to try get back the £100 it cost me in parts overall but offers are welcome. It needs to go - she’ll never use it and I can’t get it back to Swindon or store it.
Think that K put a gumtree ad up but I doubt it has any proper photos or pictures on it.

Thorn Raven Discovery - potential sale
Hi all. My parents have a Thorn Raven Discovery that was bought for a ride to Istanbul that never happened because of a spinal injury. Despite some adaptations to try and make it usable, it never really got the use it deserved and it’s just gathering dust.
It’s quite a specific piece of kit, and we were wondering if there might be somewhere specific to post it for sale, and whether anyone knows of a potential good home. Currently in Bristol.
It cost £4,300 in 2011 and It’s really high spec, with a rohloff, couplers and triple brake setup (hydraulic disc and twin v brakes).
My instinct is that the market for these things is quite specific. I’m sure we could just stick it on the Bay, but would much prefer to come to a deal with someone direct.
Tim

Lovely bike. Is that especially short at the front?
Nice. I need better tyres, maybe tubless too.
