  • I mean. Game it all you like.
You could find out the local transmission rate for where youre stopping, calculate the incidence and prevalence in the town you stop at.
Then throw it all out of the window because you'll be on a train with all the other people.

  • Why are some vans for sale advertised as non VAT/VAT exempt?

  • We’re driving, looking at it if we drive to Aachen we can go through Germany (no quarantine required), then it’s 3.5 hours to Calais, which we can do without stopping, and then we’re on the train still in the car until we’re back in the UK.

As far as I can see this is within the guidelines and means we would not require isolation when we get back.

  • I've just received a bus lane PCN for being in exactly the same place as this Astravan heading for the left turn lane.

When I avoid crossing the white line until the very end, I've always felt like a pedantic weirdo, but turns out I should have been doing more of it.

Anyone successfully appealed something like this?

  • Unlikely to be successfully appealed. Astravan probably got ticketed too. Best to be pedantic.

  • Don't know what it is past an Austin Martin but know I'll never be able to afford one!

    An Aston Martin.
Never say never. Vantages and DB9s are getting ever cheaper, and DB7s are about at the bottom of their market

During my lockdown cycle rides I discovered this rather lovely V8 Volante living fairly near me.

  • i know that junction well and know exactly what you mean about feeling strangely pedantic waiting to come across (loads of drivers do cut it). but i would say you have no chance appealing. suck it up and go back to that weirdo feeling again.

  • Austin Martin DB7s have been winking at me too, amazing how cheap they are even if it's a Jag underneath. Plus when you inevitably have to replace parts it's not as bad.

Watched this and thought of you @Colm89

  • Hahaha i started watching that too and had to stop mid way

  • The temptation is high, will have to see how the Astra fairs on its MOT in September.

  • Yes sorry Aston. Do think I prefer that Volante, well nice, take the roof off and you are in Hollywood. If money was no object dunno what I would buy, always liked the volvo amazon estates. Just seen that Guy Martins one, mad ting. Although now living on a main road I just get annoyed at every loud fucker that goes past and wakes the kids, groups on quad bikes are the most antisocial. Total bellends.

  • You have, well used to have some grace where you could enter the bus lane a meter or two before the end if you were turning left.

  • @dan usually programming fixed it, if not a new unit. We used to find some phones paired to it would corrupt them so try un-pairing any phones and see if it improves

  • There's some reference to that around, and it appears in a TfL training document as TfL's own policy. But it's not the law and it's up to councils to decide if they want to be lenient or not.

There's another photo showing I started cutting into the lane quite early, so I think I'm stuck paying it. Thanks all.

  • Well you could waste so time and make the council earn the money ;)

  • Hackney council give no leniency at all. My only bus lane ticket was from a bit further up the road where the bus lane ends outside the Hackney Empire. I only had 2 wheels just inside the bus lane but that is an infraction so there's unfortunately no argument.

I think it is important that bus lane infractions are punished, but the way it comes across to me is that because they pay a video operator to sit there and actively watch for infractions, whether real time or on playback, they need to generate enough revenue from tickets to pay for that operator.

The fact that my road positioning enabled a right turning bus to have sufficient room to navigate around my car and join the right turning lane, is not viewed as pertinent. I don't like when the "big picture" is ignored, but ultimately breaking the rules to help the over-arching goal is still breaking the rules, so I can't argue.

  • Proof it is a very small world, met a fellow Lancia motor club member, London branch member too at a petrol station near here! (Near Paris)

  • Tinted front indicators and fog lights, went on more smoothly than I expected but there's a bubble or two under close scrutiny...

  • That is absolutely magnificent. It screams adventure-van! Anything exciting planned for it?

  • Ta mate!

Not going to mess around with it too much. Old school US vans are not as nice to drive as the new Transits and Sprinters but are bulletproof and handier off road. This one has a 6lt V8 so is pretty rapid...

I'm going to get a wheel chock for a motorbike, a tow bar (for another bike rack) and all our camping gear is going in flight cases that we can strap down. The van's got 110v power outlets already to charge laptops and stuff. We've a 20 gallon water tank, and a largish Engel Cooler which means that we can manage about a week in the wilderness without needing to go anywhere!

If I ever have enough cash, I'd love to put a sportmobile, pop-top roof bed on it, but that ain't happening any time soon.

  • Was just going to ask if it’s motorbike friendly. 6lt V8 you say?

  • Another Méhari
About £14-17 k for a very nice one
