In Trump's America, these headlines don't even raise an eyebrow any more.

  • Looks like a 4pm U-Turn klaxon. Wonder if Williamson will resign/get the bin?

Oh - no, he'll just carry on. Useless arse-scrap.

  • They'll keep him to carry the can for the inevitable chaos that will follow the (delay of) GCSE results on Thursday and the fact that all students won't be returning to school in September, despite guarantees by his boss and threats to fine parents.

  • Yes - probably. Though they can always chuck in Chris Grayling for a few weeks.

Presume teacher assessed grades will work out OK for you?

  • Is Education about the only brief Grayling hasn't fucked up?

Alfie's had his first choice place (Leeds) confirmed, but teacher assessment would push his English up to A* he thinks - ultimately academic (badum tish). If the same algorithm were applied to GCSEs, then Vince would probably do better with teacher assessed. Either way, he has a place at Graveney for A-levels, so it's less crucial than it might have been for his brother.

  • Surely they'll have to remove the student number cap as well, and then everyone will just end up at their first choice uni? And then anyone offering a practical degree (eg, chemistry, biology, engineering) will have no space to fit them in?
    This is a monumental clusterfuck.
We demand Grayling, only he can top it.

  • Good to know thursday won't be (too) stressful hopefully.

  • Thanks - hopefully it's sorted for you next year...

  • Even throwing all the UK tourists in France 'under the bus'
didn't stop Ofqual and Williamson having to issue an apology for the debacle of the A-Level,
    and (presumably) the GCSE results.
Well done all the protesting teenagers.
Remember this inept management when you get to vote in future elections.

  • Out of curiosity does anyone know why level and GCSE results weren't given/created in say May or June?

  • They needed time to fuck things up a bit first without looking too rushed about it.

  • MI6 Rogue on Twitter says he's gonna be sacked, just waiting for the right news cycle

    Classic Dom indeed

  • MI6 Rogue is a bullshit account though isn't it? Either predicts incorrectly or predicts after the event has actually happened and claims that they predicted it.

  • He said you'd say that.

  • Is it? I don't follow but someone re tweeted it.

  • Yup. For example, hinted that Boris Johnson was the arrested MP and provided a cropped screenshot of a file leaked 5 years ago to try to provide evidence.

So it appears Public Health England (which didn't exactly cover itself in glory on a few occasions - though often due to very heavy-handed political interference) is the patsy for Hancock's own incompetence. And a new body, headed by Baroness Harding, spouse of John Penrose MP (who oversaw the report which recommended it be removed), failed CEO of TalkTalk and head of the much maligned Track, Test and Trace programme is taking over. The shirking of responsibility and cronyism is unbelievable...

And by unbelievable, I mean entirely predictable and utterly in-keeping with this lot's MO...

  • Also worth mentioning that the Tories have slashed the PHE budget by nearly 50% in the last ten years or so.

  • Definitely. Run it into the ground so my mates can take over: 100% this mob's MO (and I don't use the word mob lightly).

And very few c*nts in the press ever point it out, for obvious reasons.

  • So depressing.

  • The grading algorithm was known to be flawed =last year= yet they went ahead and used it.

Now this nonsense, even if PHE is flawed so much it must be replaced, this is the worst timing ever as the pandemic is not yet over, better to bolt on local testing and other bits and then reform the lot.

And Dido Harding is not known for her competence in anything, the grumpy IT folk on TheRegister have plenty of examples...

  • the conservative party. where your commitment to failure is seen as a virtue.

the appointment of harding is an existential risk to all of us.

fuck these people and anyone that put them where they are.

  • In the old days, at least someone had to do a little bit of digging to find this shit. Now they really don't give a rat's arse.

If only the government had some kind of Anti-Corruption Champion who could look into it...

  • Let's form PHE in 2012! Yes great idea.
And then just as were showing improvement (and we were) "reorganize!".

    FFS.
I don't know where my job goes, I'm in health protection. It's not just track and trace, there's the national infection service, field epi, infrastructure stuff, SGSS.

So. Move all that sexeh stuff.
Then who gets the polonium safety which is part of porton down but was investigated by health protection?

    Ok. What about obesity?
    Air quality?
    Substance misuse?
    sigh.

7 years in to formation, just making progress, everyone bedded in properly. It'll be a fucking nightmare

  • Harding and Grayling are employed to deliberately fuck up.
