Bit off topic too but I just bought some Birkenstock Arizona and they’re pretty uncomfortable - do the soles shape to your foot or do I need a large dose of HTFU?
-
• #7428
Gotta make sure they’re big enough, you should be able to see the entire ridge ahead of your toes and behind your heel.
And HTFU. -

Have a fiddle with the straps.. Wear socks til they break in.. And HTFU

I should ask how much, to buy for my dad, but I fear he won’t wear them

They broke my feet in the first time I wore them, it was agony. But now each new pair are comfy.

I've been wearing various Birkenstocks for 25 years and always found them super comfy.. What do you guys find hurts your feet?
-
• #7433
This was 20 odd years ago. My first pair were a birthday present and my then partner took me to Barcelona for the weekend. Our first day of sightseeing on foot I chose to wear the unworn pair. The arch support mullered the tendons in my feet. I could barely walk by the end of the day. However since then I have never had a problem.

Same here. They’re quite a stiff sole I suppose?
In what way did they hurt @inchpincher ? -
• #7435
Same as DJ, right in the arch. I do over-pronate though and wear stability running shoes.

Do you guys think that they are 'good for your feet'?
-
• #7437
I thik that what's good for your feet is a variety of shoe styles, and they're unique enough to qualify as one of the outliers in that variety.

I wore a pair of Birkenstock Madrid for hours on end in Italy. I don’t remember agony from walking as you guys have, only agony from a few grains of sand under the strap that felt like a hacksaw tag-teaming with sand paper. I was in tears by the end, unable to walk very fast or very far. They got less and less use after that.

Agree with a variety, I rotate a couple of pairs of running trainers but haven’t worn proper shoes for quite a while. I usually suffer when the sole is stiff and flat - my Redwing chukkas when I first got them and some Loake brogues were particularly bad.
For the sake of my marriage I’m trying to ween myself off crocs in the garden. -

👌 any in a uk 9 knocking around?
-
• #7447
I didn't pay that, far from it. I've had a number of ebay watches set up though and after 3-4 years of waiting, they popped up
-
• #7448
These were US9.5 so I'm hoping they're somewhere around that mark. Read up on sizing but it's so personal, esp with my silly high arches, so fingers crossed they'll fit

Ta both. Yup. They're lovely. Way out of my budget!
I realise this isn't quite the thread but, is anyone interested in a set of Dr Marten Barnie chukka's UK11 for cheap?
