• @Sumo yes i wouldn't deny the obvious stopping benefits of hydraulic but can't imagine mechanical is that bad right? We're talking about a 'gravel' bike that is used more for commuting with the odd weekend gravel ride thrown in so i guess my point is well, are hydraulic brakes necccesary or could i sacrifice the braking performance a bit for some more comfort on the hoods

  • I've got some TRP Spyres which are perfectly funcitonal for commuting with the odd weekend ride thrown in. You can adjust the pad spacing too with a little allen key which solves the long lever pull before biting issue.

  • +1 for spyres, I have them on my tank of a surly. They managed a mixed terrain ride w 2200m of elevation (in about 90km, so steep) loaded up the other weekend, no bother.
    The pads saw some wear, and as lf says, adjustment to tighten them up a bit was super easy.
