How much better for espresso is a Robot than an aeropress?
-
• #18828
Im making 4 espresso's per day whilst we work from home - I've developed a lovely routine and would really struggle without it

Well, as far as I'm aware you can't really make an espresso in an aeropress (despite the litany of accessories that claim to be able to do so), so I'd say considerably better. In the same way that a moka pot doesn't make espresso, short and strong coffee doesn't equal espresso.

If you're happy with the aeropress I can't see a reason to spend 10x more on a robot.

I think a lightly tamped moka is closer to espresso than what you can do with an Aeropress.
I quite like moka pot coffee. Much like espresso, it very much depends on the coffee you put in it.

Haven't had aeropress but I've never seen it looking like this online.
This was one of my first attempts on the Robot, so forgive the off-centre pour.

Is there any consensus which is the best pull espresso maker, Flair vs Rok vs Robot vs ??
-
• #18834
corr yeah it does look good.
I think you can get an ok espressoish pull (push) from an aeropress and if space is an issue it's probably what I'd make do with -

I’m in a happy place with my Rok but my god does that video make me want a robot @withered_preacher 😅
I can get a relatively syrupy shot with a decent cream but nothing like that.

Which grinder are you using? Just thinking that in order to get the right quality of grind you're going to need a pretty decent grinder?
-
• #18837
People who prefer lighter roasts apparently have had to work a little harder to get good results with the Robot but I’ve found that it is easier to get repeatably tasty coffee than with a moka or the 9barista.

Currently using a Helor 101, but this week I’ll be picking up a Eureka Silenzio.

Nice one thanks. Enjoy the new grinder!

I believe I will, thank you.

Has anyone got any experience of the Eureka Mignon, specifically the Filtro model? Is it worth the extra money over something like a Baratza Encore?
-

Cold press espresso. Anyone here made it? Been thinking about it for a while but just seen a YouTuber making one in a Flair manual lever machine. Had crema and everything. I guess the easiest way in my case is to disconnect the heater wires and pull some shots with cold or iced water in the tank.

In the office today all day for the first time since lock down.
Had to use some pre-ground coffee that's been sat on my desk since March, as i didn't think to bring new coffeeWhilst hot it was fairly passable but the after taste is making me want to gargle bleach now (2 hours after drinking it)

Has anyone got any experience of the Eureka Mignon
I have a Baratza and a Eureka mignon and they are not comparable; the mignon is way better. I don't know what the Filtro model it, I've got the the one with the dose timer.
Otoh, if you are not doing espresso then a Baratza will be fine. I use mine for French press every day.

Thanks. The Filtro is their brew specific model. It's for pour over and aeropress. Currently using a Porlex hand grinder which I'm happy with but grinding multiple cups-worth in a morning to take to work is too much of a chore.
Is the Mignon significantly quieter than the Baratza?

Seattle Coffee Gear (and others) do noise comparisons on YouTube. Pretty sure both of the mentioned machines are tested.

Eureka Mignon is great, feels very much a miniaturised commercial grinder, heavy and solid. Definitely buy that instead of the Baratza if you’re happy spending that much.

My Aeropress is in the office, I think about this most days
-
• #18849
My Aeropress is:
a) at work where I left it 6 months ago before lockdown
b) in the kitchenette
c) they’re refitting the kitchenette
d) I may not see my Aeropress again -

Mine is in the Kitchenette also, we're supposed to be moving offices, i will be very upset if I don't get to see my Aeropress again!
Don't get me wrong, I still think home espresso is more effort than it's worth. I'm currently using a Kalita Wave for pour over and it works really well. The Hario Air Kettle is great too.
