  • Place I went to view yesterday was almost ideal however it's 4 storeys high and there is wooden cladding on the exterior. It was developed in 2004.

Earlier thread chat re: EWS1 forms means I should probably walk away very quickly right?

  • Anyone after a small, American Psycho-style million pound one bed? No?

    (I love looking at Savills)

  • The messed up situation means the only sensible thing for you to do is either walk away or drive an extremely hard bargain such that if you buy it and then get clobbered with a mega repair bill (or you want to sell it and find it challenging) you don’t end up out of pocket.

This whole mess needs to be fixed by boris and co. I wouldn’t hold my breath on swift action though. Grenfell was 3 years ago.

  • niche question, can anyone identify the oven/hood/hob? interested at to what they are

  • Oven looks like smeg

  • Has anyone rebuilt an extension? By that I mean the previous extended the kitchen and built a conservatory add on (most likely permitted development) Our plan is to rid both and make it a proper useable space?

Is there anything I need to consider? I assume I need planning permission and the likes?

  • Pretty sure the hood is Ikea

  • Pretty sure the hand soap is expensive.

  • I'd avoid buying a multi-occupant dwelling of any sort if I were you until such time as clarity arrives on whether they are effectively going to backdate fire safety rules by 20 years. This is the government's current trajectory.

This may or may not be possible dependent on your financial situation.

  • The hood is probably the Smeg Cucina if the oven is Smeg.

The reviews of it are all pretty average on AO and Which, similar-looking but much cheaper Ikea models score better.

Miele probably do a forum-approved one for about a grand.

  • Yes but read Ikea backwards.

  • Any village dwellers here? As in, one pub and no local shop, villages. Am I daft to consider such a move pre-family?

  • Probably better if you don't have a family than if you do in a village like that.

  • Just been to a friends place that is like this - it doesn’t bother them. They have an amazing garden and a listed cottage to keep them busy.

8 minute drive from Hertford though so not exactly in the sticks, mind.

  • It would only be 10-15 minutes to the town we're in now, but means buying a second car + parking when I do have to come back into London though.

an amazing garden and a listed cottage

    This though.

  • That said listed stuff is an immense ball ache

Possibly balanced by having their own well, barn and all the veg they can eat

  • The one we're looking at isn't actually listed but is sufficiently characterful. We have friends in a listed house and I don't think I could live with that.

  • we have two pubs. and a small shop. and a chippy and a chinese takeaway. and a couple of hairdressers. and a fire station. a GP practice and pharmacy. a library. a kebab van. so, i suppose no. but other than lot our village is small and we do not regret leaving london and landing here.

  • depends on how the local dogging scene is

  • Are you thinking of where I think you're thinking?
If so- important to note that when the bridges are down (which happens about 1/5 winters) its a bit of challenge.
The fast train gets you in to London before 9 though, and there's always parking at the station.

  • 8 minute drive from Hertford though so not exactly in the sticks, mind.

You've obviously not been to Zeros then

  • Don't think we're thinking about the same place - where are you thinking of? Devon?

  • Yes! and @umop3pisdn is talking about Coddenham.

  • Nearly always. Its my 15 year plan.
