Can you slot the threaded bar then screw it out?

wondering how I get these hanger screws out
Run a jam nut up to the coupling nut then apply wrench to the coupling nut to remove the whole assembly from the wall.

I'm disassembling this and wondering how I get these hanger screws out. There's no flat or slot to get a tool on. Am I missing something?
