  • Nice. The proportions look reminiscent of Piero Lissoni frog chair (but nicer).

  • Went in to TwentyTwentyOne at the weekend and found this Robin Day recliner. Ordering tomorrow can’t wait!!

  • Considering buying string wall shelves. Are all the places to buy much of a muchness or does anyone recommend one in particular? Just looked at Nest, which is £490 + £50 delivery for 3 shelves and 2 ladders, which is slightly painful. Is it worth waiting on ebay?
Want to put some bookshelves up in the living room, off the ground and fairly prominent so thinking about something a bit nicer than ikea. Any other suggestions?
@6pt - string shelves take weight, right?

  • They take decent weight, on our 3 ladder install we have an imac, two full shelves of records, some plants plus misc books and tat

  • String is totally fine, it’s all about how you attach it to the wall.

You could wait for eBay but they hold their value then there is the issue of getting the right configuration.

Don’t buy online. Speak to Stefan at Dodds & Shute - stefan@doddsandshute.com he may be able to offer a discount.

  • The shelves can droop - spec is 10kg evenly distributed so fine for books and trinkets, but my iMac sits in the middle of an 80cm span and that shelf has a definite curve. I would personally be hesitant about records (vitsoe can happily take records though apparently). I’ve got the fold-out table, desk, magazine shelf, plus most of the other bits (metal hanging rail, clip on storage bits, etc) if you want to see anything in particular; oak and white finishes.

Sellers are all much of a muchness ime, but lots of places regularly have 15% off. Anything better than that is a Good Price. I got my first batch from Haus as part of larger home office fit out, dealt directly with the lady who runs it and she threw some money off my way, last batch was from Andrea @ insidestore, who I think have a mailing list sign up discount? Madeindesign tend to be good for price too.

  • Viaduct are great too! They put a lot of time into helping me solve some storage woes, but in the end aforementioned Andrea found the right piece for the job.

  • @6pt - did a ninja edit, but yes I used to work there many years ago. Market leaders. But think the Dodds and Shute guys are agents.

    @hoefla have you also considered Croquet shelving from VG&P;

  • Thanks all! Will check out those unfamiliar names.
@6pt 10kg doesn't really sound like enough for 80cm of books... but @rogan 's records sound reassuring. Main issue will be the wall is probably the same as the one upstairs where we put twin track up and seems to be made of strong plaster over loosely cobbled together dust.
and @6pt I have already checked out your oak and white collection.

  • I have not. Will see if I can find some non-frontal photos of it. I can't decide if it looks too similar to twin track or even the bamboo ikea one.
    Any idea of price range?

  • The fold-out table is new! Most extravagant baby changing table ever, and too low for purpose really. Hopefully will see some future non-poo related use.

Acquiring it did answer a question I had struggled to find clearly resolved though, which is that you can fit the shallow depth (20cm?) shelves behind it without compromising the fold. Useful for bulk nappy storage in my scenario, probably other things too.

Only tangentially related picture attached, but I love the sideboard and I’m staying somewhere else for a while while the bathroom is done and I miss it.

(The shelves are level, the floor is not)

  • it's so good :)

  • John Lewis also do string shelves. If you’re not in a rush you can pick stuff up on eBay. It doesn’t seem to get discounted heavily often but you can also find ex-display stuff. Also definitely call somewhere or go in and negotiate on price - for instance I got the Robdin Day chair above for 35% reduction

I’m just about to install it in our home office spanning whole width - it’s excellent for the money

  • That’s lovely. Those armrest look perfect to hold a glass of scotch, some snacks, kindle, iPad and whatnot.

  • 3 lines of your favourite Colombian.

  • Or a nursing pillow. My wife got pregnant four months after we tied the knot...

  • Ha! I’m sure that’s what Robin Day had in mind...

  • Took delivery of a sweet new garden bench from the forums very own @dbr

He’s got the nice pics so will wait for him to post 🙃

  • You rang?

  • That's ace, really lovely. Love the angled bends on the outside whatever-the-bits-of-steel-are-called.

  • For basic wall shelves we got Tomado Libro as an alternative to string. They do white ladders with solid wood (or metal shelves). 70x70cm spacing x 20cm deep x 18mm thick shelf. Get them on Amazon for 80 squid.

  • That really is rather beautiful.

  • 😁😁😁

  • Or I spotted Hema do them for £40 with metal shelves (and £25 for an add-on) and you could cut & rout some oak planks or whatever to fit?

I agree with you and like them as an alternative.

Edit: I think they're about the same price elsewhere with metal shelves - wooden ones are more expensive, obvs

  • lol. I relate to this after coppering up for a used stem...
