  • Have a look on pepipoo, if that site is still going.

Didn't they show you the video before issuing the ticket?

  • @Dammit - thanks. Interesting as I'd have thought that combo was pretty iconic. A Targa from that era without a big plastic spoiler and bumpers looks odd.

That said my mum's best friend had a similar one back in the day which he quickly sold as he hated it and replaced with 500SL I think. I still remember him wanting to sell his 1983 911 for ~£8k in 2005 and my mum refusing to let my dad buy it - almost identical to this one. Pretty sure it one of the first 3.2l in the UK. But could be wrong.

  • No he didn't. I was going to the beach with the family so didn't want to push too much. Thinking back I should have asked to see it. Definitely installing my own dashcam now. Went into the local station today, turns out he isn't from round here and staff at local station said it was excessive. Advised I write to the courts

  • How many cops were in the car?

  • Two. They had a good nosy around to see what else they could find... Didn't find anything which is nice! It's not the white line I want to query, it's the conditions under which I was alleged to have crossed it.

  • unless they're racing down a 1/4 mile

I thought that was your obligation with a hire car.

  • In a hire car, every mile is a quarter mile.

    Wait, what? #fastandthefurriest

  • Looking at space and convenience I’m tempted to put the bikes on the roof. Does anyone know if there is an additional charge to pay for Eurostar if you put bikes on a roof rack?

  • I don't believe there's an extra cost, but you have to let them know when you book so they put you in a tall compartment

  • I need a small van. Probaly going to get a newish T6 Kombi/Transit Custom Crewcab this time next year, so dont want to spend a huge amount on this one as its just a stop gap.

Anyone have a user experience of a good alternative to VW Caddy? Or should i just get a VW Caddy?

  • If you touched the solid (ooh err), surely everyone else (including the popo) did as well, if not worse?

  • That point was glaringly obvious to me at the time.... As well as the fact he pulled me over and none of the other cars in the queue. Not that raising the point would have helped me much! This is the spot in question, hardly windy!

  • Probably no in car video then, your word against two coppers. Let us not go there on that one.

So IMO your choice is take the fine and points. See if the points and poinsts code effect your insurance premium. Speeding doesn't but what the points you are being issued at a guess, due care and attention, may cause an increase in premium.

Or go to court, piss an overpaid right wing twat off (especially as it will be road offences) and the twat will not be paying attention to you or the pleadings as he (mostly) will be reading the notes to the next case, or wondering what time lunch is.

  • That is a fucking low blow.....

  • Now, to be condescending ;) (Parents had a house in Malta, so I speak with the authority of someone that used to go there), malta is a disorganised Italy. Looking at the cars on the Island you are lucky the car has tyres with any tread never mind legal tread depth.

  • Correct.

We all know there is nothing faster than a hire vehicle.

  • Is there a way to see how long a car has been advertised on AutoTrader?

  • If it's just a stop gap, wouldn't an Astra be cheaper?

No experience, but they can't be that bad judging by their ubiquity. Or for more height a couple of people on here have a Berlingo - which also avoids the VW-tax.

  • A friend of mine bought a low mileage Caddy, took it to the Pyrenees for three months, brought it home, washed it and sold it for £500 more than he paid for it. Good ones keep their value, and (as Dave proved) if you take better photographs than the guy who sold it to you, can even gain some.

  • +1 Cheap shitty Astra

For the big van, I’m in a rented transit right now and honestly it’s an absolute joy to drive. Don’t know what engine but it pulls really well and never feels lacking. Cabin is great, well thought out and roomy. Loads of space in the passenger row, although this is a LWB high roof job so not sure if the Custom is the same. I’m into VWs, had a bunch of air and water cooled cars, gone to all the shows and that but I can’t see how I would justify the extra cost of the VW over this unless residuals is where the value is.

  • Need to be able to put very expensive bikes that don’t belong to me in the back without dicking around with removing wheels, so need a proper van, not a car van type thingy.

  • This is why Caddy is currently at top of list, as I'll probably get back pretty much what it cost me in a years time.

  • Yeah, I mean I'd love a T6 Kombi, and it's deffo still at the top of my list, but its just amazing how much more you get for £25k in a Ford. It is hard to find a nice Transit Custom that doesnt have the full Ford RS boy racer graphics kit though.

  • malta is a disorganised Italy.

I'm half Italian, so understand the strength of that statement. The driving here seems pretty dicey so we went with the extra collision protection. Having said that when you drive like everyone else it starts to make sense.

  • I’m spending more and more of my weekends mountain biking so have been looking at nice vans, and totally agree with this.

I’m wondering about leasing a new one, but that side of things is all set up for businesses rather than private individuals (or I’m just not finding the punter-centric stuff).
