True, but you have to balance the fuss of the fan with the total absence of the plethora of skirts, splitters, wings and scoops that make a modern GT3 something you could only drive with a bag over your head.

Oh, I don't know, I'm quite partial to a big wing. Possibly as I wasn't allowed to have one when I was racing, so they've got the appeal of forbidden fruit. And if I had a Countach 4000S, I'd have the wing. Even if it is functionally pointless and just adds drag. In fact, the reason why I like the F1 LM so much is because it's got the short wheelbase body with a wing. Yep, I like wings.

Well, paper bags are cheap I suppose.

Cheers - thanks for that. Will double check it before taking it in and see if it the tape needs replacing at least 👍

With two eye holes so I can put one over my head? Wouldn't make any difference. I've barely left the house for the last 5 months except to go to the shops, and they're within walking distance, or to go for a bike ride or (gasp) run.

I'd have an original GT3 (996.1, the 996.2 can get in the bin) with the aerokit, and I'll admit that I'd have an original GT3-RS (complete with frankly massive wing), but normal 996.2 GT3 onward leaves me cold, 997, 991 and 992 likewise, although the 991 GT3 Touring is another matter.

Always thought there should have been a Testarossa LM. :o$

Actually ignore all that, behold this majestic beast: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-911-Targa-1981-SC-Pewter-Metallic-Gold/224097019283?hash=item342d392593:g:cJMAAOSwj-Ze5mkn

918? Quite a big uppy-downy wing on that. Personally I wouldn't say no.

• #56336
CGT over a 918, F1 derived V10 goodness.
-
• #56337
I've always disliked the Testarossa after I found out the engine was mounted above the gearbox, and the latter was driven by the former by a chain. That's not nice.

• #56338
Controversial. The clutch issues with the CGT would put me off. And I've never been a fan of the styling. It's a bit too slabby for me.

Probably not given fuel costs and servicing and the depreciation on large, thirsty and complicated cars. But if you want to buy it and are seeking to justify doing so, then yes, absolutely. Money in the bank.
Or, as the dealer would put it, Yes, Money In The Bank, Go For It. What's with all the capital letters?

CGT is very much a last of its kind, analogue super-car, recent enough to be both reliable and very fast, old enough to leave you to drive it, hydraulic steering (albeit I think driven by an electric pump, although that I'm unsure of) and so forth.
That the engine was a re-use of a never produced design for (IIRC) Arrows, combined with the pure shock of it even existing when it was announced makes it a lot cooler than the 918 I think.
I would, that said, not throw the keys back at you if you tried to give me a 918.

reliable
As long as you replace the ceramic clutch every 2-5k miles.
-
• #56343
If I bought this R36 and did say 5k miles a year, it would basically be depreciation proof and earning me money, right?
I think they're very cool cars, so am happy to agree with whatever you're telling yourself about the finance side of things.

Which for the average CGT would be every 10 years.
Is it really 2-5k? I thought they'd brought that up a bit.

It's a) 5 miles away and b) I need an estate to go to France in 8 days time so I don't have to take the horrible Rodeo. I drove that back from Limoges in a day last year and vowed never again
-
• #56346
My view is it's done most of its depreciation already and the rarity value will only increase cue DSG shitting itself on fire 5 miles outside St Malo

8 days you say? I challenge you to a race, once I can find the limiter removal option in the system menu.
-

Can be, yes. If you slip the clutch, it dies. If you treat it like an on/off switch, it won't. Bit tricky in stop/start traffic though.

Could anyone explain the keypad mounted on the dash? I assume some sort of aftermarket phone thing
-
• #56350
I'm going Portsmouth-StMalo - west Brittany so decline your challenge, sir
It will be an advisory again, so long as there is no white light showing then it should pass, I had repeat advisories on cars when I was a tester. The test is as the car is presented at that time and place, it is surprising how bad some stuff has to be to fail it :)
