  • A subscription is required to view the full segment leaderboards, but not for the segments and your own times on a ride.

  • Anyone else unable to see any segments in activities at the moment?

    They're gone for me too.

Looking back I've last had them on an activity on the morning of May 31st, but none on another activity in the evening on May 31st. And none on any activities from that point forward.

(I don't pay to use Strava but even free members should be able to see their segment times on an activity, it's just the segment leaderboards that have been messed about with.)

  • That's weird. On the dashboard, I could see the name of a select few segments I got PR's on, but didn't show any segments when I actually went into the activity. They appeared again for me yesterday pm.

Currently on the free trial, so should be unaffected.

  • I saw someone had got a KOM on a ride, clicked on the ride and no segment details appeared. Working now, also on a free trial.

I've got a bit of an issue with the route planner, takes several refreshed before the actual map appears.

  • From a backend perspective the segment analysis is just a batch job that can be done at any time (it doesn't have to be done at upload time but ideally it would be). I wouldn't be surprised that if they're having trouble with resources to do this[1] then they prioritise it in the order of Paying members > trial members > freeloaders (like me).

The status page (https://status.strava.com/) says that everything is hunky dory, but companies that tell the truth on status pages at all times are rare. (Although, to be fair, most of the time it's because their status monitoring isn't good enough to pick up on all problems.)

    1. This is pure speculation on my part but they almost certainly using some cloud computing resources (e.g. AWS) and they may have pushed something new that uses more resources, or they're otherwise limited on resources, or a myriad of other possible reasons.

Nice suggestion of "Get out of the boat and get back in the boat." to try and fix it though.

  • So rather than 'have you tried turning it off and on again' it's now 'have you tried temporarily pretending you were in a canoe'?

  • Yes, and close the issue saying that fixes it, when it doesn't (at least doesn't work for me).

  • Yeah, Strava only showing top-10 is real useful...

  • This is what flagging is for.

  • .

  • I signed up for the tree trial and then cancelled the sub - The trial has now lapsed, however I can still see full leaderboards of segments and all my previous efforts, etc. Anyone else? I'm not complaining obviously, just thought it was weird.

  • I've just discovered that I hold a KOM.

And I've held it for over a month.

  • Can't say I'm keen to get back on Strava just yet. Was handy for racing.
Injury last summer and COVID has had me 'off the bike' for almost a year. Can only view top 10's and in my time off plenty of my KOMS (well 4) were pinched, some with 'assistance'

They do seem to be sending me a ton of emails and notifications, don't think they're getting my money 🤷🏾‍♀️

  • That's because only an insane person would ride that segment.

  • Which I why, having ridden it, I decided to try to create a segment. I didn't realise that I had been successful until earlier today.

I am hoping that no one else is insane enough to try to take it off me. I am the "Local Legend" on all Northwall segments!

Of course, if I lose it, I will have to move on to the 150 km and so on...

  • You actually rode that? I assumed it was a strange GPS glitch, wow.

I too own a single KOM, from 2015 which only serves to cement the fact I'm past my peak.

  • Boredom-ing, the new Everesting?

  • Boredom-ing, the new Everesting?

When Steve Abraham was doing his various attempts at the HAMR (Highest Annual Mileage Record) and was recovering from a broken ankle he did many 100+ mile days riding round the outside of MK Bowl. The Strava segment shows it is ~1.1km. He probably did over three thousand laps of that one month.

  • I've done 677 loops of Northwall Road in the past 90 days which puts me head and shoulders ahead as local legend. I've done 978 loops in all, all but five or six of them since lockdown. Each loop is just shy of 2 km.

When lockdown first came in and we were supposed to ride for only an hour or so a day, I took to doing 11 loops which, with the journey there and back was a 33 km ride and "just" over an hour. Since then, I have been riding longer and further afield at weekends and not riding every weekday but when I do, it is a convenient loop to get some miles in without the bother of traffic. I listen to audio history books as I ride. I did the 100 km ride one weekend because I had ridden 100 km round the Inner Circle a short while before and thought "why not?"

  • Makes sense. No route worries, no traffic worries. Zone out and get the miles done.

I don't know why people think it strange or boring. Runners do the same loop again and again.

When I did Cambridge and back ten times in ten days, people asked if I didn't get bored with the same route. These were people who got on the same train every morning and the same train every evening.

  • Rep! (train commuters lol)

  • Personally I derive no satisfication from zoning out and getting the miles done.

There are obviously some good reasons to do a loop again and again, but surely you can see they don't apply to everyone.

Actually, I'm a bit dumbfounded by my own response. If you enjoy the same loop 766394y278 times, knock yourself out 😂
