Car appreciation... the aesthetics, the engineering, etc

Sounds like when my dear departed mother tried to learn to drive. It quickly became apparent that three pedals was too many, so my father bought her an auto. Turned out there was still plenty of scope for confusion. The auto Renault 5 was a total shitbag of a car, but thank fuck the handbrake worked well.

Okay I think, it does need the front suspension arms doing as there is play in the bottom bushings. I'll sell it to you if I can line another car up.

It isn't! The guy who owned it was far from precious about it, he actually drives it whenever he can.

This was in a beer garden in Hampshire, my excuse for being there was getting my roof motor fixed on the Z4. They reconditioned the motor and repositioned it in the boot within 90 minutes, with a lifetime warranty on the work. Total cost including a coffee stop, pub lunch and 275 miles worth of fuel was under £300. It was a lovely day of cruising, 90% of which was on beautiful roads.

I have always (and continue to) desperately want a Bristol!

Ah, you convertible chappies, just cruisin about! I miss the Peugeot décapotables of yore! No such sturm und drang in today's point-to-point in the Lexus.

There is a DS on wheeler dealers France where they actually do work. The car is bought from a person that has quite a few.

Just to qualify that. You're probably not going to be able to match the OEM bumper plastics, so matching paint blended in is the most consistent option imo.

Talking of Wheeler Dealers, their Jaguar XJC is currently on eBay. Been thinking about the next project car, post house move, and would love one of these.

£26k, although can see online it was advertised in 2015 for £18,500. I don't have that much to spend on a car but it's good to see the potential. Also the vinyl roof would have to go, sorry.

How does that compare to similar but non-TV famous cars?

Yeah I was thinking of prepping them and painting them satin black but I suspect it could be a faff with that textured finish.

I've also just found a seller on eBay who does replicas of the massive RSI C6 ones for a third of the price which are very tempting...

I'm not 100% sure but seems on the higher side for an XJC, especially for somebody who likes the process of learning through a project. Personally I wouldn't attribute much more value on a car that's 'famous'.

I think the vinyl roof is a bit part of the cars look myself, but I may well be on my own with that.

I also agree that a DIY approach would appeal to me more than getting one that has been restored already. Key thing is a sound shell really, and then create your own (vinyl free) vision.

Interestingly I was looking to see if I could get Starfish Jag wheels like that to fit my Beetle. Sadly not an option - they would have looked dope AF.
