The Bird Thread

Very pleased to have seen a pair of Peregrine Falcons yesterday evening on Portland.

No pics as they’re quite fast

When all is said and done, this might be the highest quality thread on the forum.

I do like a peregrine, they have a way of staring straight at you

There's a house martin nest under the eaves of my house, you can hear the chicks chirping away all day but it's proving very difficult to get any decent pictures as it's in the shadows and when the parents come to bring food they are ridiculously fast. I will keep trying.

Remove plaster/plasterboard, insulation and brickwork from inside the house thus filming from inside the nest. They'll not notice if you are really quiet.

Drove up the M40 earlier, the kids were amazed at all the red kites flying overhead.

That’s a lot of godwits! You’ve probably said already but where are you? You seem to have some great birding on your doorstep.

Funny that, pied wagtails are super common now in parts of London (seem to have hugely increased in last ten years), occasionally grey, and I've never seen a yellow one.

We have a couple of pied wagtails visit our garden alot. Can never get a decent pic they never stay still! Lovely little birds

Some amazing pictures in here as of late, thanks for sharing guys.

All I see where I live at the moment is dirty pidgeons, and crows and magpies (who are fighting all the time and are annoying as fuck).

Down by Portsmouth at the moment, which is great for mashes like Farlington or Chichester Harbour. Moving on soon, so will need to find new nature spots.

Loving the wagtail updates. Funny how common they are in places.

Any suggestions why no birds use our feeders? Tried moving them in case they were too exposed but we never get any visitors. Often see birds in the garden using the pond or having a dust bath but only robins and blackbirds ever feed (on worms).
We have one feeder with fat balls and another with peanuts.

I love this thread, and hope it's OK to post some quite old pictures.

Here's a Barred owl, taken on Vancouver Island a few years back. Once we saw one of these sitting in a tree in downtown Victoria, in the middle of the day, calmly eating a crow while being mobbed by about 10 of the crow's friends and family.

How long have they been up? Usually it takes some time for birds to 'find' them.

Might be worth getting a ground feeder / protected table with sunflower hearts or wild seeds if you get blackbirds and robins, might attract a few more birds in.
