Thanks for the advice everyone... I was leaning towards the 27 but wasn’t sure if I was being stupid.

I’ll do a little research towards the new releases and I’m sure I know someone I can get the education discount from.

There are constant rumours about possible new Macs being imminent. They usually have the accuracy of a stopped clock.

It’s worth checking the refurb store (items are generally indistinguishable from new, same warranty). No 27s right now though.

Nah.. they've already said they have new intel machine in the pipeline and a benchmark for a 10th gen 5300 equipped Mac popped up somewhere... may be time to sell that PC and treat yourself?

I am actually quite happy with Windows... and my work MBP 2020 should be arriving anytime soon, so in total I’ll have 4 computers. I don’t think I need a 5th one... 😅

Prob not that close to be fair, not until ARM Macs are gen 2, but I'm loosing the love for my Hack already, PC's are just a bit of a bore.

edit: Mac mini + RX5700XT wouldn't be miles off, but know you need Nvidia.

I’ve been offered a MBP with the below spec for £750 from a close mate who has had enough of macs any more and is back off to windows. Is that a decent deal? My 2011 MBP is working ok but could die any minute and I do need it when away from home

I have 2 jobs so I double dibbed, would have been much nicer if both my bosses gave me the money and I could get a real nice Mac, you know 2 above average MBP 13 is about £4K... but hey ho...

I am considering selling my MBP 15 2016 model whilst it’s still worth some money and I have just had the screen replaced, but it’s not something you’d be interested in anyway.

That’s quite expensive I think. Also, if they are selling to you directly, I’d expect them to discount the eBay commission, so if eBay is doing £700, I’d expect something like £630 -£650. That’s mate’s rate for me, but then it is a mate so you get to know the history of the machine better than an eBay seller which can be pot luck.

Doesn't seem that much of a deal if im honest and if your 2011 is doing fine id probs just rock that until it dies or stick in a SSD if you havent already.

How good a friend?
Physical condition? (The Mac not your friend)
Battery cycle count?
Does the screen have keyboard rub marks? Is the coating peeling off? You need to shine a torch on the screen to check.
Does every single key on the keyboard work? OK, Apple is still replacing them so not end of the world.

These are all factors before you even test out the machine properly...
