That and one day I dream of beating@dbr's Sa Calobra time. (Though the reality is this is highly unrealistic).

For me it's less about 'training' than getting fit again, because I'd got so unfit I couldn't do longer rides and I'd got fat (65kg, FYI) and because riding during lockdown seemed best done on a turbo. I then discovered I actually enjoyed the turbo.
I'm not doing any 'training' right now though cos my sciatica has flared up again and I'm struggling :((

One I forgot to explicitly mention, but it's kinda covered in the other reasons is that: if you are going to do a challenging tour or fun ride, it's more enjoyable if you're not constantly in pain. One way to reduce RPE is to train beforehand.
