Is this weird?
Four bikes in parent’s garage. All the Continental tyres (GP4k and Four seasons) do the below. Panaracer, Vittoria and Specialized tyres fine. In London I only ride Conti and they’ve never done this, bikes are in my flat. What’s happening? Conditions?
It’s annoying as I deliberately buy premium tyres to keep my mum on the bike!
They get used, probably 40-50 miles a week. But run at a lower pressure than perhaps they should. I’d like to get wider tyres but I don’t think the frame would accommodate.

(You’re looking at big cracks if you’re not sure)

Preach.

This, plus disc brakes are heavy and aero bikes suck.
That said if you gonna do tubeless do it in big rubber, you can limp home at 50PSI in a 32c tire but not in 23c. -

That's happened to every (premium) set of Continental tyres I've kept in my basement. I'd say the low pressure riding won't help, but I don't think being stored at low temperatures is good for those tyres. It might also just be the change in conditions in a garage, hot to cold, dry to humid, etc.

Another vote for the G-One Speed

Weird squirmy thing happening with my front wheel ever since changing from Gatorskins to Gravel Kings. Seems to happen when I'm riding over painted lines. Never had it before, anyone experienced similar with GK's?
I thought they might be directional and I had the front tyre on back to front, but Google says they aren't.

I’ve had this before on compass tyres. Yet another reason to bin them

Humidity and temperature will do this. I have the same problem on the rear tyre of my cargo bike, which stays covered but outside.
Some compounds are more prone to this than others.

Don’t think so, but I think non-cotton gumwall sidewalls look proper shite.
-
• #7438
They do look shit, but are they really as fast as ‘tests’ show or have Conti paid-off the internet?
-
• #7439
Maybe. If you can keep them from puncturing for long enough to do a decent effort

Tan walls are the only choice, at least in the dry, but a £20 premium on the black version feels like a rip off.

Have done 1000 miles on (non-tanwall) gp5000, I think that was more than one effort.
One set of punctures when I left the house in March on my first "lockdown" ride and I got 2 snakebites (front and rear) from ramming a road>bike path curb. None in the Kent lanes so far.

2 snakebites (front and rear)
double snakebite punctures?

The price is jokes.

I’m not a conti guy but would bang 5000

I had a few in 23c. Hardly any punctures, very fast, would buy again.
Problem is people commuting to the office on race (or light gravel) tires and then moaning about flats. -

What are the go-to road tubeless tyres at the Moment. Currently have Schwalbe Pro-One 28mm but they are getting a bit crusty and won’t last much longer.
Must be tubeless, must be quick ish, 30mm Would be nice, I think 32mm is too big unless the hive-mind says it’s ok.
Pro-ones again? GP5000? What else is worth a go?

Fitted a set of 28c 5000 TL yesterday, came out around 29mm.
This was on 28mm wide, 21mm internal rims. They have a reputation for being hard to fit - so I fitted these to an old wheelset and left them in the hot/cold garage for a month, they went on nicely.

Should have seen this thread and added it here...
https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/351211/#comment15420289Anyway...looking for a rear back wheel for commuting in London with good puncture protection (<£30 ideally) - Suggestions please?

With a bit of hunting around, you might be able to find GP 4 seasons for that - still v good tyres, fit and forget but ride nicely.

Great prices on Pirelli's (from the bargain thread): https://www.triuk.com/Sale#itemtype=Tyres
Cinturato Velo for £20!
Road tubeless is the biggest fake news in the cycling industry. And 32c will make your bike boring on tarmac. 25/28c for life
