The Souvenir....
From what I read I was expecting it to be better. The skipping over things happening and only showing the aftermath didn't really work for me...and the main male characters voice really fucking grated on me after the first few minutes.
Ray and Liz...
As a huge Mike Leigh fan, and general fan of miserable, slice of life type films, I really liked it.
Reading the director/photographers backstory only adds to the sense of tragedy, and looking at his original photographs from the book 'Ray's a laugh', I'd say they nailed it visually. There's not really a moments joy in the entire film, but well worth watching if you like this kind of thing...like me.
