• Tbf, i'd say it only makes sense to build up that Raleigh, if it has sentimental value to you. The frame looks very heavy and of low quality, check out the ropey welds and the way the dropouts are joined to the stays. At the same time, you can get quality retro mtbs made from tange steel and the likes with solid lx/dx/xt components for next to nothing.
    Btw: Love the diversity of your bikes and the attention to detail :)

  • Oh yeah, I’m totally aware the Raleigh is a heap of shit! It’s unbelievably heavy. By ‘good shape’ I just meant safe to ride to the shops, I’m not going to drop any money on it other than v cheap essential replacements.

    The Dawes is actually really nice to ride, so might give that a bit more attention.

  • Budget is the way to go. I actually found these budget projects to be very enjoyable and a nice change from building serious/fancy bikes. It might be a fun project to see how heavy it can get with a dutch omafiets front rack, brooks saddle with springs etc. :D
