Hive mind, in terms of aesthetics what looks less shit on a road fixed with black rims (or any road riding fixed gear with a brake)
MSW front with matching rear disc/NMSW?
Or MSW front and rear so at least they match? After going back through this thread i'm undecided.
Won't be going single speed or F&R brake on this bike so this is purely a looks question. Silver would be the logical option but i didn't like how it looked when i tried a loaner.

IMO NMSW in the back, NMSW / MSW up front which turns silver after usage (if black rims). Shows you actually ride it. All black rims non-disc rims on a road fixed looks like a shop window / for looks only. One other thought is the H plus son archetype hard anodised which isn't black but isn't silver, and the brake track doesn't really pop out. They are nice

That f&f is sooo nice.

Yeah i think we're on the same page (edited post - NMSW), but i have noticed MSW f&r is almost less awkward than front only IMO.
Problem is most modern wide rims have a higher profile so the MSW really stands out. It looks a lot less contrasty on low profile box sections (Open Pro, TB14) but i want something lighter/lower spoke count that's wide. Archeytype hard ano is a good call but not sure it's a better rim than the XR22 which is what they'll be replacing.

Has to be a nmsw on the rear if no rear brake imo.
Msw without a brake is like an empty mech hanger or unused brake posts.
Up front msw is so much neater than anodising/paint that wears off.

This makes sense. The wheelset on your purple bike is not far from what i'm going for, XR22's on Goldtec/DT?

XR22's on Goldtec/DT?
On mine?
No idea what the rims are, rear hub is DT, front would either have been a 48h fly bmx hub laced every 2nd hole to a 24h rim or a Tensile 36h hub and a 36h Tim with a spike in only every second hole again!
Just got some Halo Evaura (which are xr22s) in silver to build a tubeless sheelset for my gravel bike. Silver to avoid this very conundrum.

Guys what is NMSW and MSW? I'm usually pretty good at working out acronyms in context but I'm stumped.
EDIT: Ok I got it, non-machined side wall and machined side wall.

Better in what sense? Are you racing, audax or CX? Because if you're just chopping around the lanes at 15mph just go for looks because if it's modern wide it doesn't matter that much

I've been having this exact dilemma for my dolan, it's in need of wheels and I can't decide what combo to go for. Had sort of settled on silver but would love some of those grey ano archetypes YAL mentioned.

They are like ~£50 from wiggle, all different spoke counts

Warming to these, don't think my wheel builder if a fan though.
Pretty sure @Eamesy had them on his Mash Bolt but his pictures are down. Any chance of a repost?

Wheels arrived from China today so I was able to finish the refresh of my Condor Pista. Needs black chainring and seat collar and eventually a posher cockpit but finding a matching stem, handlebar and seat post right now is like winning the lottery. Wheels are 25w x 30d tubeless on DT Swiss hubs. They juuust go in with 28c Schwalbe Ones.

Needs black chainring
Nah. At least not unless you're going fully murdered out with black cranks too.
Being picky, I'd have gone for silver spokes with those hubs

Yeah that’s a good shout. Speaking of which I’m a bit confused by these tubeless rims with no spike holes - how would you ever change a spoke?

Magnets!

Looks really good.

Looks good to me. I have very similar finishing kit and stuck with silver cranks/ring to match the hubs (not just because they were cheap...)
