Ultimately yes it doesn't really matter. Any width will work. And probably 23 to 25 difference is indistinguishable to a normal human?
But 50mm will easily fit your tripster.

I've just had a look and with the 47mm Horizon there's maybe 4mm each side so it might be a tighter fit than I first thought, although it depends on the shape of the tyre and how much the sides balloon out.

Hmm, really? The i23 have been fine. I mean I accidentally ran them at less than 20psi and that lead to some sketchy cornering until I put a bit more air in the front but today I was riding at 40psi and they were fine. I'll probably try down to 30psi and see what that's like on road and off.
I'm not even sure I'll be able to get the 50mm tyres to fit but I'll have a damn good go. I wish I could just have a 23mm and 25mm wheel and the tyres I want to use and then measure them up. Pain in the arse all this guesswork.
