    Wheel your bike into a room with a light coloured carpet, the water will immediately pour out.

  • I'm building up a set with straight pull spokes but the spokes are round rather than bladed so I can't use my bladed spoke holder. I need some sort of grip pliers. I was recommended the Roval twist resist tool but it's well pricey at $165. Plus will probably not ship from the US at the moment or take ages. The idea I had was to get a small bench vice and then laboriously use that. I've tried regular pliers but the grip isn't strong enough and of course they scratch. What's the best option here?

    Hacker method would be custom grinding v-grooves in some Vise-Grip pliers (US) or a Mole Wrench (UK)

  • My ex companion has bought an electic horse,
    the motor is in the rear hub.

    The rear wheel is going out of true regularly,
    I recommended the most professional outfit to sort it out.
    The tension were all over the place on the trouble free front wheel,
    I hope the rear was treated the same way .
    Evening out tensions at the rear magically brought back the wheel almost perfectly true.

    I brought my tension metre on holiday,
    but forgot my spoke gauge,
    they look beefy maybe 3mm.

    Would DT Alpine be the go to spoke like on a tandem?

    Possibly 12g (2.6mm), that's used on some ebikes. You can buy them pretty easily now that ebikes are a thing.

    Hub motors are very large compared with the ERD, use what the maker suggests, which might be just 1X. Too many crossings will make the entry angle at the rim unworkable.

    Old school car wheels would use single-digit gauged wire spokes. Very little wind-up to worry about on 6" long 6g spokes 🙂

  • I rescued a 70's tandem from a reputable builder with a rear drum brake.
    At least 3 mm gauge spokes ,
    and rim holes so large that no modern spoke would fit.
    There are some monsters out there.
    Spokes kept braking ,even riding it solo.

    I tried to source some spokes,
    or washers that would allow me to fit modern spokes.

  • Any reason to choose the Kinlin XR22t over the XR31t, aside from weight and aesthetics? Will a 28/24 XR22t build still be less stiff than a 24/20 built on the XR31t's, using the same hubs?

  • Any recommendations for through axle adapters? I've s ts2 stand, and now I'm doing a bit more mountain biking again it'd be handy to be able to true them and maybe build up a new set.

    Are the park ones good? Or imis it worth considering the eBay efforts which seem to bolt right through the hub?

  • I just use the eBay adaptors which slide into the through axle and convert it to QR. Never had any problems with them, and you can get 142x12 QR adaptors. Not quite sure why you can get them, but you can.

    I have had an American Classic wheel that i popped a spoke about a decade ago. Is there any place i can take to have a aero spoke replaced? South West (Putney)? That i wont have to wait 4 months due to the queues of free bike services being offered on new bikes. Whats the costs? (as @Vince pointed out), i have no need to be a shameless chancer so not going ot lowball anyone. Just looking for someone who could get the wheel useable again.

    Or, offhand, any idea on the spoke length on an AC Aero spoke?!?! (whahaha) I think i got the tools for a single spoke... I think.

  • 10min walk from Teddington station. I have 256/258 & 272 in Black CX-Rays and 256/258 & 270/272 in Black Pillar Wing20s. £15 while you wait (outside I'm afraid) including the spoke, subject to sight of the wheel.
