If I would take a guess probably close to 10kg (and that’s me being generous)
Will need a proper scale to measure it properly for this pretty much period piece before starting the upgrades/diet to make it more a lightweight & modern bike.

On other news the KG381 has got its first proper upgrade, a dirt cheap 3T stem from eBay last week.
From a stubby 90mm -6 to a 110mm -17. Which makes the bike looks more aero and surprisingly not that aggressive either.
Brother took it for a ride this evening around the block and seems to be happy with the step up.

Nice! Dibs the 10speed kit! 👍🏻👍🏻

Definitely not my finest purchase on eBay, probably one of the rusty and most annoying seller I’ve encountered.
After degreasing and cleaning the parts my analysis will be getting the following new parts:
Brake pads
Cassette
Chain
Jockey wheels

Unlike the eBay seller I’ll clean and degrease/regrease the parts before I’ll sell it 😊

Good job on that, Never understood why people sell gruppos or parts with cables. The fucks the point? Look at the state of them. Just remove it all, clean the stuff and you'll get more buyers.

I was more annoyed that they person selling was lying about the condition and the cassette and chain was rusty AF and the crankset was really scuff. But I do like the idea it’s all Campagnolo Chorus full groupset than mix and match like the 10 speed I have (which is in much better condition)

Projects Update:
Work has taken hold of these two projects, but during this period we have been getting the KG381 parts ready to be fully stripped and serviced to be proper road worthy. As stated above we are hopefully making this easier to ride for my brother by having shorter cranks and making it 11 speed from it's current 10 speed.
Hopefully this should be ready by the mid-end of the month when the weather is much acceptable to ride.

My KG196 on the other had, I've been gathering DA9000 parts here and there from ebay and websites that selling replacement parts for cheap.
Also as you can see on the Look forum that I have been doing some in depth search on the bike, and mainly questioning how and why it is so F-ing heaving. (Granted this was their first attempt of a fully mono carbon framset and it was design for TT than for road)
I guess I have been spoilted with my Canyon over the years and never ridden a classic bike technology or weight. After some late night research I've discovered that for my current frameset and stem for the Look in the size 52 it comes at a whooping weight of 2.8kg, in comparison my Canyon was roughly 1.2kg...

Therefore after this, I basically went on a mid-night tech research on how much my bike weigh (on paper) as I put it with me on a digital scale and it came around 10.7kg.
So here are the parts list of the current build and compared to parts I am planning to get it overhauled with for next year when I am hoping to see my other half and ride the Taiwan KOM challenge on bike:

Long story short, the KG196 weighs with the period parts of 10.799kg
And if i get the missing parts, in theory it would bring the weight down to 8.097kg
Which would be more ideal to climb with next year, in the meantime it all about the window shopping and training on the current set up to get the old legs working during and after lockdown.

Buys ancient carbon bike, wonders why it's heavier than a modern bike.

11-28 for Taiwan KOM?
Also can you get 25mm to fit the frame? -
• #716
Your frame weighs the same as my 60cm full Columbus Max frame with loads of chrome!
Must have concrete blocks in it like a washing machine or something.

Speedplay zero titanium 164g
dulight.fr rebuilt cr-mo zeros cost 210€ at 141gr.
Spindles are made by Ward, which by hearsay are a bit better than the aliexpress offerings. Also, what 9000 parts do you need?
I'm considering getting a CAAD12 Black Inc. from a LBS and swap the full (except for chainset) 9000 for 11sp Super Record.

• #718
Thought it was bad, but never thought it would be close to 11kg...
-
• #719
Yeah it’s fine. Tried it out with my brothers 25mm Vittoria master and there was plenty of space.
Ideally I would like to 11-30 but I don’t want to push the rear mech too much on the DA9000 that was design for a 28.
-
• #720
Early carbon, was thick and as well as the paint job. As said this was designed for TT than road.
-
• #721
Thanks, seems all are out of stock.
I have pretty much all the parts, all I’m missing are the cable housing and the screw on BB cups.

Tyres:
Veloflex 23mm 210g (420g pair)
Yksion Pro UST tires weight 25mm 260g (520g pair)Why? Just get 25mm veloflex?
-
• #725
Two reason, want to go tubeless tyres and the wheelset comes with mavic tyres.
I know @fox has got a new set of tubeless veloflex now, will hear his feedback from them in terms of if they're any good. If not I'll probably head down to gp5000 tubeless set up as they seem to be getting the best review for rolling resistant and puncture protection.

I do think they look much better personally, and as @Lolo says, they're now period correct!
As @amey says your front brake cable setup is, er, sub optimal. That kink will be reducing braking power for sure. I think get the setup right and you'll be happy with their performance!
Out of interest, how much does the bike weigh? My Colnago is 8.6kg with the current wheels but as you know I'm planning to upgrade :)
