  • Did you know at the time?

  • No, although with hindsight I probably could have put the pieces together. I also suspect that when, aged 10, I was told I could either go to public school or we could have lots of treats and family holidays (and you can guess which Captain Swottypants here decided to go for) I wouldn't really have appreciated why it was such a bad thing. I certainly don't think I'd have been able to raise the issue, aged 10, about whether or not my deceased grandfather was an exploitative abuser of white privilege with my parents.

I don't think it's ever been openly acknowledged within the family, even to this day. One doesn't talk about money. It's vulgar. Apparently my paternal grandmother refused even to say the word 'money'. She referred to it by the euphemism 'the necessary'. That's all hearsay though - I have no memory of her as she died shortly after I was born. I don't think there's a causal link between the two, so at least that one's not on my conscience.

It's possible the money in the trust fund didn't come from South African diamond mining. It may have come from other family investments. However, at least some of my family's wealth came from post-WWII diamond mining.

Anyway, back to Bromptons. This isn't the I Confess thread.

  • Not your fault and I don't think your statue will be ripped down :)

  • Back to Brompton s indeed:

I have a JTEK titanium seatpost sans saddle fittings...So currently next to useless... Do JTEK do replacement saddle fittings for their Ti seatpost?

  • Have you thought to email jtek?

  • In the unlikely event that anyone ever erects a statchoo of me, I'll be first in the long line of people waiting to pull it down.

  • Yes and now found what I think is jtek's email address and asked them if they sell replacement saddle fittings.

Looking at SJS's website..something there says that the USE Evo91 cradle would work; do you know if it does?

  • You might do something amazing...that is worthy of a statue!

  • Is there a long waitlist on brompton?

Thinking of selling my 3 speed and doing cycle to work for a new super light 6 speed

  • Orders stopped til September, most shops have nothing left.

So unless a shop has stock, it will be at least a few months

  • Did SJS not get their 50 bikes then, or have you sold them all already? Wonder if Brompton will try and ramp up capacity - IIRC they built the new factory with a fair bit of room for expansion.

  • We ran out of even the ex demo bikes!

  • Same, we sold an exdemo S2l that was hammered

  • Got about 5 bikes on order not sold.

90 odd bikes coming in are sold.

    I’m busy.

  • There is very little joy in Checking and reboxing bike after bike knowing they are going to resellers...

  • This is me for a while... send coffee

  • If I put in for a new C2W in August I should be able to order? I'm not in a rush for it

  • Not in a rush is good!

    What bike do you want?

  • I don't think Robin and Helen give a fuck if St John Street cycles makes money. I would probably think they would be happy with the sale of bikes.

Brompton, as much as you probably think otherwise, don't make a lot of money as a company. They would be happy for increased business as they are always looking to become more profitable.

  • I hated bromptons but then my other half comfort the ‘leccy one. It is magic.

  • What's the lightest option?

  • Import a ti frame and stem, ti fork and triangle. Single speed no guards. To post.

    Sub 6kg

  • It’s great selling loads of bikes. And tonnes of genuine customers, just a shame seeing a bike up on eBay a day later for £1000 more

  • But couldn't do that under C2W - thats the kicker
