  • Thought I might have a pebble stuck in my o/s rear disc (old golf) from the noise I was experiencing. Took the wheel off, tapped about and this came out. Unsure as to whether it could have been picked up when driving or its from the braking system

  • We’ve still got a diesel suv so definitely not goodbye to petrol stations. Also, the new car has a 240mi range and is only going to be used as a local runaround so should be any range anxiety.

  • Heard back from garage. He said no sign of hydrocarbons in the coolant which is a BIG relief! He suggested checking radiator and then looking at water pump. Could be faulty off the shelf. Definitely no circulation so something is blocking it. Result as far as I'm concerned!

  • Mechanic said no hydrocarbons in coolant but thermostat opening 5 degrees too hot doesn't make any difference. Still tempted to get one that opens at the right temp....

Ran hose through rad from top to bottom on tbh more came back out of top then went through to the bottom.

  • I would 100% avoid that car.

I also felt the same. Why is he selling it.

@Fox there's no reason you have to peg your offer to what he paid or the money he's put in to it. Price in the risk, you don't have to justify it. 'Nice car, I'd be comfortable paying £x'. Thats it.

Or tell him to come back to you when it's fixed and bedded in.

  • That sounds plausible but also still crazy.

Just ask yourself what it's worth without aircon, can you afford to fix it if it's properly borked, and I think the big question is, how likely is it that he bought a car, realised something major on it is fucked, and is trying to get rid?

I paid £12,000 or so for my C55, and have put over £10,000 into it since then.

I don't think I'd be able to ask for £22,000 for it (much as I'd love to).

  • Although it's aircon works very well.

  • Well it's back, and apparently gremlin free, touch wood

  • what year civic is it? friend had endless problems with his 08 civic air con - turned out to be the ECU!

  • That is from the carrier that holds the pad in place.

  • @lynx ah thanks so much! Will swing it by a garage as it is in for its MOT on Friday.

  • Good news. So new rad pump and thermostat...

  • Well weirdly the mechanic said if the thermostat opened 5degrees hotter than it should that doesn't matter

  • But yeah got a new rad coming from VW Heritage and tempted to do the thermostat anyway

  • Hope it stays that way!

  • Easy enough to test to see if it opens

  • It does open just not til 92c

  • yeah, we had someone 'fix' our air con last year, was £60, it worked for the remaining 2 months of summer we needed it, when we tried to turn on aircon back in april this year.. nothing happened.

When it stopped working last year you could hear it 'try' but air didnt get any colder, now when you hit the button absolutely nothing changes so we are convinced they did more damage than good, and pretty reluctant to spend money on fixing it on a car thats worth £0

  • You know you want an XJ-S. Just do it, or you never will.

  • Is correct,

Or even a mk3 MR2 there was a cheapie in slough that needed the clutch replacing...

  • Volvo has a recall

  • Really boring lease Octavia arrives tomorrow. It will be a new car day.

I'd like to keep it as new as possible - for obvious reasons. However it's going to live on the street for the foreseeable.

Anyone have any recommendations for a camera (or cameras) that would pick up anyone who drives in to it whilst it's parked?

  • I paid £12,000 or so for my C55, and have put over £10,000 into it since then.

Oof. I'm planning to offer less than 10% of this 😂

  • can you afford to fix it if it's properly borked

    Yes but don't want to!

He's calling me today and I have read up on FN2 Civic air con. There is a common fault where the relay for the compressor motor in the fuse box fails, it's easy to check this as the belt/compressor won't be turning. The worst case of a new compressor is a lot less than I thought but I don't really want to get into air con fault finding, especially when it could be a £12 pipe or a £20 relay or it could be potentially hundreds. So I'd prefer him to get it seen to or I drop my offer accordingly.
