  • @andyp has a good off-road (cx?) loop

  • I might get a ZipVan (or car) tomorrow, it's going to piss down today according to BBC Weather.

  • He has loads. It's easy to string lots of bits together from Beckenham, probably 75-80% off road if you want.

  • It's all on trail forks. I'd be lost without that app

I'm the complete opposite. I live in Epsom and have been riding those trails since the early noughties, pre-Strava.

So I know my way around very well but I rarely study Strava to see what the trails were called that I've been riding since before they were given names or often new names from the names we referred to them.

  • To be honest, I'm sort of the same, although it's only about 10 years of pootleing around that area for me.

Trail forks is just the best way to check out what you've been missing out on / hidden new spots. I'm not really into Strava as I rarely record anything.

I tend to pick a loop, then use trail forks to see if there is anything good I've missed in the past. The irrerverant trail names serving only as something easier than trying to explain where it is...the only thing trail forks is missing is an OS Map overlay (or similar) so you can find your way to some of the ones that just start in the middle of a wood. The map layers they have can make it hard to work out where some bits are without some local knowledge already.

The China pig trail off box hill was new to me. In the past I've just blatted straight down Juniper bottom on the bridleway, never realising there is an awesome swoopy single track about 300m to the right.

  • yip, China Pig is great and probably one of the only trails that has kept it's pre-Strava name.

I have no issue with trail names, it's much easier than saying "do you remember that trail that starts next to the large tree, you know the one that is just past the bush where Jonesy fell off"

  • Bendy Wendy is one to look for.

And Rumble in the Jungle, though it has unavoidable gaps and doubles with no chicken runs

  • What's the bets railway station to head for in order to get to the Peaslake area?

  • If you can get to Box Hill station at 07:37 you can join me +two others. Or see you around Peaslake 9-10:30 probs

  • Pleasant ride with Eyebrows, Platypus and (I think) Dogs today (but that last one is a 100% guess), around Peaslake and Leith Hill, sadly it was a bit too flat, but apart from that good fun.

  • Dogs made it south eh
You'll know it's him if there was too much pink or purple on the bike

  • It must have taken some effort to formulate a flat route around that area?!

    Edit - sarcasm detector malfunction

  • New sled day for mini-Aroogah

immediately builds out upgrade part list

  • I did. There can never be enough!

Was a good ride today, but it needed a bit more climbing, and I needed more sleep.

  • it needed a bit more climbing

    Impossibru

  • Ahem

    1. Bouncy Disc Fork
  • Is that a 44mm head tube?

  • Haven't measured it - but the XC version of the frame comes with a Suntour bouncy fork. RST make aftermarket ones too for around 65€ from Bike24. I can't find a supplier in the UK.

edit: I can only find a £320 Mantou option in the UK. Thanks Wiggle/CRC for strangling the market.

  • Definitely too flat a ride.
Super fun and dogs an absolute pleasure to meet you.
Sorry for being a bit shit.

  • Sorry for being a bit shit.

But not sorry for making me get up at 4:30?

Nah you were fine! I think my tiredness did away with my cautiousness. It was certainly fun riding out there, way more berms than I'm used to.

  • I reckon a cheapo suntour or RST fork will make the bike worse, heavy and just pogo-y and will probably rust into a rigid fork before too long anyway.

  • Definitely too flat a ride.

    gps pls
