  • Why would they care? Running on a beach is allowed?

The premise was that the beach would be closed to the public.

  • Why so negative?

  • Oh, a hypothetical thing? I think I'm a bit confused.

  • The whole north coast of NI is lovely, and the scenic route is great. You can also take the train up, you won't see as much with the car but still get some views.

Can vouch for that, last year Portstewart

  • I need to get some masks for return to work. Something comfortable to wear all day what do you recomend?

  • Not bought (yet), but the milltag ones look pretty cool.

  • Anyone booked any campsites or Airbnb or anything? Looks to be pretty risky, would be basically uninsured

  • Me and some mates have booked some camping spots but I'm not sure it'll go ahead to be honest, I think it's a nightmare for the site. They're not putting people on adjacent pitches which makes sense, but apparently if you book 3 pitches you won't get say, 1 pitch, fallow pitch, 1 pitch, fallow pitch etc, they spread your booking all over the site to prevent people from gathering. Also, we wanted to be in our small one-man tents and have two people per pitch, which turns out isn't allowed most likely. However we could have two people in one tent. If those two people aren't cohabiting then it was be a. not a good idea and b. maybe not legal/allowed?

Also, no toilets so you have to show up with a camping toilet thing. We're only really planning it as nobody has a garden big enough to space 6 of us out comfortably, and are happy to pay for that option even though we'll be up the road from one of our homes.

  • That sounds fiddly, group camping with everyone dispersed like that isn't ideal at all.
We're looking at glamping style huts, and it seems the country is getting booked up incredibly quickly. Partner very much wants a break but it feels strange.
It seems that, while guidance is that holidays will be allowed again, insurance and cancellation policies are v cautious and can leave us quickly out of pocket.

  • Yeah, at least my thing is relatively cheap and I don't mind the site keeping my money if I opt out in the end, I'd rather those places kept afloat.

  • Skip to 8:38 for 5mins of John Edmunds on the subject of ‘pictures of beeches’, a second wave, and contact tracing in the UK.

  • We have a canal boat (booked months ago) and a cottage (booked last night) for the end of July. If we have to cancel and can't get the cash back it's not the end of the world.

I only really care about travel insurance for when I break my neck in foreign and have to be flown home. In the UK I'm less fussed.

  • We were chatting about booking an AirBnB cottage last night. Decided not to in the end, with the seating argument being that there might not be anything to do in the local area. No restaurants etc. It'd be like being at home but not knowing where the sauce pans are.

Unless you get one with a private, disinfected pool.

  • I'm not sure what to do, would like to help local B&Bs but now the weather is hit and miss and nothing much open yet.

Newcastle beach with Mourne Mountains has lots of walks, but it's giving rain coming weeks.

  • We have just postponed our greek island holiday booked for August to next year, so looking at doing something local for end of August with 4 year old daughter, but she likes to do stuff, so need some degree of confidence that swimming pools etc would be open...

  • We've got a Greek island holiday booked for July for a wedding that is now cancelled. We can't get refunds on the flights or hotel and looks like insurance won't cover it if the government is allowing us to travel there, which it apparently will be from early July. So looks like we've got no choice but to either throw away £700 each, or go despite not really wanting to. Probably will go if it's allowed although it doesn't feel like the responsible thing to do.

  • Anyone booking in the UK - we contacted the place we were looking at pre-booking and they provided assurances about refunds etc if anything happens, so feel a little more secure than before.

  • That sucks, one benefit of booking through TUI is that they let us postpone with no fee.

The Greek islands themselves seem to have pretty much missed the worst of it, so once you are there I’m sure it will all be good.

  • Looks like they're taking the pubs opening seriously back home. One of the places I used to go to will be opening at a minute past midnight on Saturday.

  • I cycled past some open pubs in Soho and around Leicester Square yesterday, the streams of piss in the side alleys were impressive.

  • It doesn't bode well for wales to reopen Judging by the state people are leaving places in.

  • Yes, there's a few round me now that are open for "takeaway" but that consists of sitting outside the pub.

  • I have a haircut appointment on Sat! I usually hate having my hair cut but currently I am very excited! I was gonna wait for a while but figured when the pubs are open on Sat too, we might only have a few weeks before the numbers shoot up again...

Now need to find a time to have my Mac fixed then I can go back into lockdown until next year...
