Oh dear... Now I feel bad mentioning the row of mugs and curry sauce. Lol.
Erm... dare I ask, what happened to him in the end?
Not sure if it's a cultural thing or we have to do it, but we all lock away our laptops, keyboards and mice each day in our desk drawers. We all have wirless Mac keyboards and mice, not posh but just iMacs come with them and we can't put them out in our computer rooms so staff get to have them instead as the IT office have hundreds of them.

Somehow he managed to avoid getting kicked out and stayed in the company for at least another decade. Not much in the way of career advancement though.
Own keyboard and mouse does seem to make some sense although wireless and re-pairing all the time sounds like a lot of faff. I have my own keyboard at work as I don't get on with the one supplied but that sits on what is currently my desk so is easy (and it is wired).

Realistically this proposed cut of social distancing from 2m to 1m is going to mean no social distancing other than where it's formally applied (e.g. cinemas).
You see "socially distanced" gatherings now and they're generally about 3' apart. Tell people they can half that and the distancing will be non-existent.

I use my own wireless keyboard and mouse, both Logitech and paired to the same usb dongle, so I just plug that in wherever I’m sat. It stores inside the mouse case when I pack up.

Interesting. I assumed the dongle was dumb and the pairing information was stored in the host. Clearly Logitech are smarter than I am.

Just take your own tablet, much easier.

I like this one, it’s definitely not 5g compatible so can’t spread Covid-19

Flip case, dual screen, that’s a bit modern for you.

Surely hot desking is a worse idea post-lockdown
-
• #14561
Depends how far post-lockdown we are. Some chap on the telly said there will be a vaccine in September and we can go back to licking each other. If/when that happens hot desking isn't a problem.
A little sooner you could have a hot desk that is used by one person for a day and then cleaned overnight ready for someone else the next day. Complete with some kind of 'this desk is clean' flag that you remove when you start using it.

Wireless too.

I liked the 2m, it meant in the office the banks of four desks could only sit 2 people diagonally apart and as such the office capacity would be halved. I don't want to ever go back to the office.

We have a card on the desk, when you use the desk you flip it over to red, when the cleaner gives it the once over with a dirty rag they flip it back to green. Come in, use a green desk, flip the card. I usually add a tea ring and crumble a bit of biscuit just to be sure it looks lived in.

I don't want to ever go back to the office.
I've heard quite a few people say this but honestly I need to get some more human contact again, as well as an hour of cycling a day doing the commute. Also if everyone was to continue working from home forever why the hell am I in London, I could be doing this from Barcelona.

This. I'm thinking about just moving to a different part of the country to force this issue. 'Oh yeah, the office, yeah, I live in John O' Groats now, either I'm working remotely or you fire me, whichever you like works for me.'

My trips to look at places in Spain were fuxxored by Covid lockdown. That's why I'm not in Spain.

I'll probably go back into the office when/if it opens up. Mostly because:-
- I love living in London
- Kiddo has all her friends here and is happy at her current school
- I only used to do 2 days a week in the office anyway (and the other 2 days from home)
- I went in on a Thursday as I play 5-a-side near work afterwards (and then the pub)
- I went in the other day a week to take-in/bring-home stuff and allow me to run in one day and cycle the rest
- I have my own desk in a quiet area of the office with only a few people around (this may change of course)
- 2 day WFH, 2 day office is a nice balance
(The 5-a-side is the main reason I'll be going back in, assuming that starts up again.)

I can't see myself going back to the office in my current role - Given that I have never been to the office in my current role, having started post-lockdown.
Of my team, I think that only three of them actually work in London - the rest are all around the world.
One of them I do see, but only because the live at the end of my road, and we were mates before starting this job.
For future roles - who knows?

It gonna have a massive impact in says, the Square Miles where locals business spend years even decades catering for the commuter/workers.
Bike shop in the square miles for instance will likely suffer, ditto to coffee shop, small supermarket, etc. “Unskilled labour” jobs that Boris happily call it will suffer the most.

I feel I could do with re-socializing, and some things are still easier explained online so I will be back in the office 2-3 days a week once it re-opens.
If it all becomes complicated with "only those days for you" to keep people apart, have to go and see, might just be 1-2 days then.
I tamed 2 crows near work to the point that they were waiting for me for handouts, I suppose that's a good enough reason to go back...but they may be gone now. Stupid covid :(

I used to share a keyboard and mouse working shifts which covered 24x7. 4 workstations for 8+ staff. One weekend one of the gentleman on an opposite shift was caught with his trousers round his ankles engaging with some specialist online content. I was so very happy when I left that job and had my own keyboard.
