  • Could someone remind me on the best technique for lightly cleaning the outside of a watch please? Is a slightly damp toothbrush the way to go for removing the grease/dirt between bracelet links?

I've just inherited my grandads watch - it's just an old Seiko quartz so nothing special but has sentimental value so I'd rather not break it.

  • Ed, please tell me that bezel lines up...

Yes, a soft toothbrush is perfect. If the watch is waterproof then doing it in a bowl of clean cold/tepid water makes it easier to get rid of all the gunk.

  • @edscoble @Tadpole thanks for the offers to right it, but I've got to be honest with myself: I don't like it as much as I should, so it's going to go!

  • If it's waterproof I've previously soaked it in a bowl of Coca-Cola. If it'll melt teeth it'll melt dirt.

  • I really like those viewed from above but they're just way too tall in real life.

  • @Regal & @Sumo - thanks! It says water resistant on the back but it's old & I imagine he'll have tried changing the battery himself, definitely not using the right tools so don't think I'll risk soaking it - will just got for the toothbrush for now.

I feel a bit dirty but I do actually quite like the bi-metal look (it's a classic old man watch)!

  • SBDX011 right? Killer. My favourite Tuna.

That's the one! Might be up for grabs soon if you want to scratch that itch.

  • This is true, my PADI samurai constantly get knocked on door frames etc. Very large and angular on the wrist. I still love mine, actually my second favourite watch but it is a little large and heavy, especially on the bracelet.

  • Definitely not at the moment but thanks!

  • Actually, what would you want for the dawn grey? I'm in aus though.

  • Anyone sold via Chrono24? Just sold my wife’s Oyster Perpetual but am wondering about seller protection. They don’t really mention it. Will Obvs be sending fully insured with signature confirmation to the address provided by the C24 escrow service.

  • If only I had a house that could do that justice!

  • I have bought and sold on C24 using their escrow service and had no problem so far. But I have no experience of what happens if eg the seller rejects the watch and then fails to return it. In theory everyone is ID verified but despite that, I know there is the possibility of a dispute ending in deadlock where the buyer refuses to accept the watch and the seller refuses to accept a return, and the money just sits in escrow indefinitely.

I’d still much rather buy and sell watches through C24 than eBay but it’s never going to be completely foolproof.

  • Put a Onelife ID Nato on my SNK
