Sometimes telling the customer that what they're trying to do can't be done is the best policy.
When you're doing your own work, you're responsible for everything. As soon as you hand it over to somebody else, they have to consider before starting how they are going to deal with the situation in which the operation was a success but the patient died.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they're doing okay at the moment and I don't have an issue with being told they're busy, the bike shop nearest my office said that when I called them. It was more the "GP5000TL? Not a chance, not ever" sort of thing I found odd. In honesty, shitty customer service is a hallmark of Luxembourg small business so it's par for the course.
