• Re: gyms. Mine reopened back in March and at first every other machine was fenced off, showers were closed, pools closed, class numbers limited to 60%, masks needed... Then they opened all the machines, pools, showers, only instructors needed masks... Now the only thing is that we have to show our health code on the way in to the building and have our temperature taken, and some of the gyms won't put the air con on (this is quite common in summer here though, gah). The machines get wiped down but presumably with a damp rag and no Dettol or anything. I refuse to use the swimming pools as they're full of old people spitting. I also don't shower at the gym as I can't deal with the old people shouting at each other at the top of their voices in shanghainese.

Of course this may all change as we're about to have a second wave...

  • Ugh, that sounds unsafe.

People spitting in pools is gross even with the bleach in the water.

  • It seems logical that after Beijing, cities like Shanghai are likely to have similar lockdowns soon, doesn't it?

Culture of spitting is odd. Why would it be 'good for you', and even if it were, why can't they quickly go to the bathroom/toilet and spit there?
