Brompton spot in Lidl today. Lady rider lugging a white B-bike around the fruit 'n' veg aisles, causing much blockage every time it was plunked down so she could fondle the produce.
Pleasantly observed in passing that it was probably safe to lock it up outside (mine was) to be told that it was her baby and wasn't being left anywhere.
Fair enough.

You must have balls of steel to be locking your Brompton outside, never, ever, EVER!

The door is over there...
There is no excuse, never lock it outside, just plain moron behaviour.

Mine NOT a B-bike.
No, but hers is. There may have been a better way for her to take care of the Brompton inside the store - I often place mine in a spot I can see that won't inconvenience people if a shop or a part of it is cramped - but
- One of the major advantages of Bromptons is the ease of taking them inside and not having to lock them up outside.
- Bromptons do not lock well to bike stands. Really, they don't. Look at the shape of the frame, consider what's missing, consider how cramped the reduced shape is, map it to the shape of a standard Sheffield stand...
- Bromptons are not just easier to steal from a stand but highly coveted by bike thieves and more likely to be nicked from the stand than the bikes around them (not just because of point 2)
Did you just come in here to say "I saw a Brompton owner being a dick"? Wrong audience for more than one reason.

Bit of a Xpost from the mini-velo thread, but on the Brompton. An older relative is planning on moving into a camper and was asking about a bike.
A Brompton seem like the obvious choice.
As they'd need decent gearing for their aging body is sensible options, so is the 6 speed the most sensible buy? I know they're a bit heavier, but the 3 speed seems pointless as it's basically the weight of the 6 speed but less gears.
The real sacrilegious question is whether a Brompton is the best folding bike for this scenario?
I've forgotten the vehicle their getting, but it will just be them and I think it's a bit bigger than a normal van, but smaller than a motor home.
Thoughts?
