It is original a Dutch surname (son of Frans) she seems a descendant of immigrants 🙄
In a May 2019 BBC Northern Ireland Spotlight documentary, Fransen accused Paul Golding of violent abuse. < That is however unacceptable and seems he admitted to it.

I know I shouldn't, but every time I see her surname I think of the German word for carpet fringe--"Teppichfransen" (plural). (I think it's probably from the same root as English 'frond(s)', but I'd have to look it up.)
