@Hobo Check out the Brompton kits made by Grin technologies- the progress that they're making with electric vehicles is amazing. They do a torque sensing bottom bracket (similar to the Brompton set up), which combined with their proportional torque controller really makes the difference from the cruder feeling kits.
I rode around on a stupidly powerful e-brompton for ages and nothing broke.
