  • @R.Hobbs whats the best Brompton electric conversion kit? My mum's eBrompton has gone wrong for the 6-7th time in 6 months. She has been without the bike longer than she has had it so Brompton is giving her a refund.

Due to poor health, she needs an e-bike so I'd like to convert her old M6L Superlight. Swytch seems to be the most popular but I am concerned about reports of the fork/hinge failing. She is tiny 5'1" 50kg and will only be riding it along the canal (flat) a couple of times a month. Any recommendations?

  • What’s going on with her electric?

I don’t give approval to any aftermarket kits, the stock parts are just not set up for them. Maybe if you swapped the fork to a Kinetics, used an electric brom stem etc

  • I recall when @r.hobbs asked about the electric Brompton:

You ridden an electric Brompton? We have one and think it’s great. What don’t you like?

It doesn't fucking work as much as it should. For the price point and the fact that Brompton had been developing it for 14 years...you would think they would produce a reliable e-bike thats not a boat anchor (17kg).

Owned one, it was ok. The fact that it failed and went back 12 times meant retailer took it back. Brompton employees (and their mechanics at the junction stores) who I know and I am regularly instructed by, confirm its shit.

Get a swytch kit or whatever it is called and get Ben at Kinetics to build a better fork - Ben ,unlike, Brompton, designs things that have stood the course of time.

OR get a retailer refund if still possible (I recall you worked at Cycle Surgery at some point so hope you bought elsewhere!) and buy a reputable ebike by a reputable ebike builder

    Love to mum!
