  • Waterworld was epically expensive, took about 20 years to break even.

    I think it's found favour in the last decade but my memory was that it was complete shite. I also remember being irritated at how dirty everyone was even though they lived in water. After enjoying Street Fighter on the weekend I should probably give it another go!

  • I think that this actually isn’t true.

    It flopped domestically but actually broke even on the worldwide market upon cinema release.

    It heralded the trend of studios producing loud action movies that will appeal to other cultures/markets ala fast and furious and transformers franchises. Bland action packed spectacles that have generic plots/actors/themes

  • Ah must have my wires crossed. I recall a film finally breaking even getting in the press and had recalled it as being Waterworld.

    Nothing nice to say about transformers but I think F&F deserves a little more credit.
