Silly me, I've only just remembered Brick Owl, which has the years of when bricks were introduced, so could perhaps serve as a source for a brick timeline. I mostly look at BrickSet as I prefer the layout there.

Clearly very late in terms of Tester years. :)
If anything, I'm more interested in pre-Technic era. For example, one question I'm not sure about when surveying the 42100 BoM is when did we first get the 3x2 brick? Lego seemed binary to me for a long time, bricks were 1x1 1x2 2x2 4x2 and 8x2, flats were the same but with 8x4 added. I remember the shock of the new when a 12x4 flat arrived on the back of a lorry 🙂
