Even at the time, with the writters there to justify their work, there was some doubt as to whether the characters were acceptable. Especially as the series and jokes went on.
I've not seen it since the ones I saw on release, I can't imagine it's aged well.
Some fun characters aside, that show was never OK was it.
I always thought that was the point, the jokes themselves were never actually funny, just a series of catchphrases used too much, but that the joke was also the absurdity and offensiveness of the characters and costumes.
