I can't wait to ride it again!

Turns out there are loads of bridleways around Stansted.. Too bad it's quite flat there

Has anyone got a nice route to Windsor from west london?

Rode this last year, utterly flat.
Seems to be a popular route for people that like to go fast on flat rides. -

Thank you, I think I'm going to stay more northernly, above Heathrow, just to cut down on distance, but I'll bookmark yours for later.

Recreate a forum ride;

Was a bit suburban for a long time as I recall, but the section from Chertsey onwards was good.

Any chance you've got a record of the route? The one on the thread is down.

Cheers! Might try this tomorrow. (Just added you on stravaz)

Let me know how you find it! I am riding the first 40km of it too tomorrow!

Is there a recommended bike path/gravel/bridal way/non-paved trail path up to Epping that people would recommend (from Hackney/Walthamstow/Leyton)? Something for 35/38ish tyres. I have a route from Wanstead Flats to Epping that I used to do a few years ago. The first half or so was perfect from meory, but it becomes more of an MTB route as you go on.
Also, @giofox, after a bit of spying I must say your ridewithgps history is full of some awesome routes!

Ah! Thanks, I truly enjoy scouting (and riding) new routes, I get bored of the same route over time.
This is the smoothest trail I could identify this year - The best trails/lines change after every winter.
You could ride this with 28s, 32/35s to go a bit faster.

Did you ride this then?
-
• #889
Awesome! Thanks!
Although this sudden change of weather is making me rethink my plan for a chilled park ride later this week. Can always bail onto roads though.
-
• #890
No, we chickened out from crossing the river and headed to Surrey chalk hills instead.

• #891
Crossing the river is always a daunting perspective.

This looks pretty mega, how was it? What kind of terrain?
-
• #893
It was mega-ish, about 8h of hot and dusty riding, yet one of the best routes I've ridden recently. I wrote something here, and some more pictures on Strava or IG. There are some long stretches of posh gravel bridleways, but also some single tracks and bumpier farm tracks, little tarmac.
This time of the year it can be easily done on 28s, but having more air definitely pays off in terms of comfort on such distances offroad.

Awesome, thanks for the info. Will definitely give it a go at some point. Maybe the slightly cooler weather is a good opportunity.

Are there any gravel/offroad routes getting out of town NW of London, similar to Epping forest from Leyton?

Haven't ridden it, just found it on RWGPS. May do it at some point though.
-
• #898
Thanks, saw that, but it looks mostly on road with a few bike paths here and there.
Planned a route for now, aiming to leave early so should be quiet, although the juicy bits only start from km 30 or so. -
• #899
Ah, that's a shame, I probably won't do it then.
Your ride looks much better, although I'm not sure I would want to tackle it in one go. I feel pretty battered after 60 or 70 miles of off road.

Yeah, it is taxing on the body, but more relaxing on the mind than 2/300km on the road.
I did it on 35c and it was fine, 40c would be a comfortable ride, MTB unnecessary, but even more plush, but it still is 4-5h to Cambridge, so whatever you find comfortable.
