  • the H3 is great @Acliff and amazingly compact and 'ergonomic' to carry (not that I have to)

@hippy I got that fan, its alright, might need two in summer one wall mounted one on the table

  • Big fan of the Hammer/H2/H3 form factor.
Will probably pick up at an H3 at some point again to put the TT bike on.

  • It's here! Well, at the post office. Ordered on the 5th April, but once it actually made it onto a plane not so bad. £15.79 customs to pay on top of the ~£47 quid (post-conversion) purchase price, if anyone else wishes to be informed before taking the plunge. Should have just bought it from your uk link and saved myself a lot of hassle.

  • Happy days. Let me know how it goes, I still might grab one if it’s solid.

  • My 9 year old has implied they'd like to sit next to me and pedal along while I "do a zwift".
Does anyone have any experience of 20" wheels and making them work on static trainers?

  • It does exactly what its supposed to. Slightly clunky app, but once it’s set up you don’t need to go back to it. Mission accomplished, turbo’d this morning with my ANT+ hr and power coming up on my iPad just fine. 6 week mission accomplished.

  • Good news! Thanks.

I would say “enjoy the turbo”, but...

  • Do they want to also zwift or just pedal? If it's the latter, check Cav's social media as he built something for his kid to ride with him. I'd guess you may need to change the axle.

  • Tacx vortex turbo

Today I was about to start when I realised I have a fucking flat tyre - how the hell has it got punctured

Then when I tried to start trainer road I couldn’t get iPhone to talk to turbo. Constant amber light- tried to run a software update and still constant amber light.

Now the wahoo dongle is no longer talking to the iPhone either.

Any suggestions on fixes for either the wahoo dongle communication issue or the constant orange light.

Google suggests it might be the brake firmware but it doesn’t appear that the IOS app can update or reinstall this.

How can 3 things all fuck up at the same time?

  • Or what is the forum approved smart turbo these days and who has them in stock?

  • Have managed to download the firmware restore and tried to open on iPhone

But now getting “ please disable other applications using bluetooth le” though no other Bluetooth devices are connected.

  • Finally solved, had to take off HRM for the turbo to update.

    Best use of an hour

  • Bastard hate machine seems to have decided to increase resistance by about 15% judging by my inability to ride at sweet spot today.

At least it’s working and I can keep on getting fitter in lockdown. Am about 7% lighter than when this isolation period started.

  • Has anyone seen a turbo you could use with a Brompton?

It's for my dad, so simple and not too expensive in case it ends up living in a corner.

Bonus points for something that is or folds compact.

    Cheers!

  • Has anyone figured out if an elite turbo muin can be used with a bolt thru frame?

  • i gave up and bought a saris H3 /csb

  • Cheers.

Embarrassingly that's quite similar to mine that has seen typical turbo milage since purchase.

  • You know the turny knob on a tacx trainer.that pushes the wheel unit against the wheel?
Can you swap the bolt out on that for a longer bolt? Which would solve the getting a 24 inch wheel on a trainer. Alternatively, Im going with "trying to get a 26 wheel in the 24 frame".

  • What's the forum recommended turbo trainer du jour?

not looking to spend too much ...

seems like there are lots of elite volare mags and cycle ops fluids going cheap on ebay -- are they any good?

i miss spin classes so also considering a stand alone spin bike ... if anyone has any recs for one of those

  • I have a Tacx blue matic (I think) which I used once. Fine trainer but I changed to a direct drive. Would happily sell it cheap as it's just sitting under the bed. It's got the speed and cadence sensor stuff for Zwift/Tacx app.

I researched direct drive/smart trainers pretty heavily but standard trainers was mainly interested in adjust-ability and noise. Volares are the most basic of trainers but that's generally OK - elastogel ones are quieter and reduce tyre wear.

  • The cycleops basic yellow is a good, cheap, trainer. I've fucked many a magnetic trainer in 10 years (mainly as they're second hand and I'm inept). The yellow trainer is working well so far.

    Blue matic is good.

  • yeah defo interested ... i'll send a pm

  • Spin bike at home is not the same without the music, and someone shouting at you.

  • And doing seated press ups on the handlebars
