  • Enigma fixed my wife’s cracked Ti burls but I don’t think it was that bad. Worth shooting them a mail I think

  • I for one love your work

  • try and return it ASAP if you can, that's going to be stupid money if you can even get it done

  • On the topic of cracks, my mate just stacked it and put a hairline crack in the head tube of his frame. Is aluminium repairable? I personally don't think it's worth pursuing because it's a cheap, not particularly special frame but he really likes it.

  • Possibly, I've seen it done but it depends on finding somewhere that will do it. Alu is really hard to work with for repairs. I seem to remember the last time I saw it done it wasn't by a bicycle company but some car restoration place.

  • Might be worth looking in to that. I genuinely don't think it's worth it but I'd like to be able to present him with the options before he makes his mind up! Cheers for that.

  • Off we go:

  • Oh, that's nice. Which fork?

  • Must be very heavy, it has bent your seat post by being hung from the work stand.

  • Shortly to be replaced with more acceptable Chorus post.

  • Contact Dave Baillie at Vernon Barker Cycles

He's fixed a Ti frame for me before.

I'd say that crack is too far gone and that can't be fixed

  • Coming along nicely.

  • Well that's incredible. I have no idea what a Somec with Shamals costs but hoping one day I'll be position to build a bike like this. Please take lots of pics when it's done.

  • Will do (regarding pictures).

Have run into a small snag.

The groupset is a 9 speed Chorus I've been saving (for about 10 years) for the right project.

Unfortunately, I've just discovered the front mech is band on, not braze on as I require.

Bit irritating but shouldn't take too long to sort out.

Similarly, I've had the wheel for ages. I think they look brilliant on this frame.

  • Saw a Somec for the first time IRL today on the backroads to Ilkley. Super gorgeous. Well jel.

  • Anyone got a 9mm solid track axle flocking around (ideally including cones and nuts, miche preferred) he/she wants to get rid of?

Link to an online shop would also help

Seem to be sold out for years

    Thanks so much

  • Looks not too bad imho but i am too inexperienced to judge whether the cone nut works

I had used the attached miche so far with the flat cone nuts which slip nicely into the bearing

  • Picked up this Shogun Kurokan alloy cyclocross bike (minus wheels) from Gumtree for a friend who wants to get into cycling.

The guy I bought it from has a "deal" with the Lewisham Recycling Centre ♻️ where he gets the bikes, fixes them then resells them.

Anyway, got the bike with no wheels, so got wheels off @Aroogah - thank you.

Found out today that the RD hanger was bent so sorted it out. Not sure how I lived all my life without a rear derailleur hanger adjuster tool!!

Cleaned & refitted the derailleur the bike came with to then realise it was also bent... not the first it happens, that's 10 minutes and 50p worth of degreaser that I will never get back.

Next task is recabling the whole bike, which I will do later this week.
