Finally back on the Peak trails and what’s this weird sandy dust everywhere? I had more trouble coming down lantern pike today than I ever did in the pouring rain and slop! Bike is still too short but heyho

For everyone riding with their kids check out Kamloops’ set up

talking about riding like a kid I've been doing simple XC recently but out in surrey the trails are really buff at the moment and its great fun. Here's a short vid of my ride on Monday round and about the NDW with a couple of newbies, I mean one guy was on a hybrid fer chrissakes, it was that tame...

Am I right in thinking something like a genesis tarn XL would solve my ‘feels too high At the back and too short at front’? Geo chart suggests much longer and it looks low at back

Geometry on those isn't too "modern" have a look at Cotic, or there are some cheap Orange Crushs/P7s out there if you shop around. Failing that - geometron.

Geometron is the new Arkose

Had a tarn. Do not recommend. It's on a porky side and handling isn't great. New kona unit is much better. I liked mine a lot.

DT swiss 240/350 freehub bodies are interchangeable, right?
-
• #16611
yes

So am I! I’m 95kg so weight isn’t a big issue. For the money it seems the best bet- those other options are all more £? Geometron? No hardtail option?

I got a whole kona unit on sale for under 600. Frames are even cheaper. Check this store from time to time https://shop.bikesandbuddies.co.uk/.
I was almost 100kg at the time and the weight still bothered me. Maybe cos I disliked the bike. -

Bird zero am is pretty lengthy and not too pricey.

Guess my other hub isn't a 350 then. Microspline body works fine on both, xd seizes as soon as I bolt the wheel in the frame. Or I'm missing a spacer.

That looks good too thanks, hadn’t heard of bird
Bit annoying that they add on headset, axle, clamp so it ends up £50 more in the end! -

I've got 2x wheel 350 hubbed wheel sets, one with a HG and one XD driver and depending on where I'm going I'll change the cassettes by popping the cassette and driver off with my hands. I've never had an issue with doing this. The only thing to be mindful of is that the end cap needs a firm push to get it on. If you're still struggling let us see some photos.

What are you currently riding?

Lifetime transferable warranty though. I rather fancy one.

BEEFCAKE!

Sorted. There's a thin metal spacer/seal on the inside of the hub, this got stuck on the XD freehub body. In effect I was trying to put two of those in one hub and that lead to seising.

My MTB knowledge is severely limited. How often do you need to add pressure to the shocks? Front is a Pike & rear looks to be a Deluxe but haven’t had any pressure added since January as covid has meant it’s barely been ridden. Hoping to ride it this weekend, am I going to need to find a shock pump somewhere?
Great info. Thanks!
