On the advice of a crosser, (thanks @fizzy.bleach) thought I'd repost my query here, so would it be fine/work well to run Avid Shorty Ultimate brakes with standard 11 speed Shimano Ultegra STi levers? And same question were I to go down the Sram 1 x 11 (22) route. Without meaning to sound like a total novice, is either/both a good combination? I'm building a cross bike but just for a bit of off road rather than racing and have decided against discs.
